Handed over by the postman today my Marantz PMS-3040--Gold Series....
This is as close as I am probably ever going to get to what it was like to open up a NOS box...
In the original box--with the original packing--owners manual, warranty, Marantz Q-tips for head cleaning, a small alligator clip antenna extender..and a Marantz Gold series brochure that opens up into a poster displaying the gold series line of boomboxes....

The box itself is a Smedium but with big box features such as independent bass and treble controls, normal/cro2/metal selector, a Marantz sort of stereo matrix feature, radio signal strength or limit indicator in red ..

Everything works perfectly and there was hardly any clean-up involved...the seller advised this unit sat in the box in a U-store facility and was purchased at auction when the owner failed the rent requirement....

For a box this size it is very powerful and full sounding...no problem using it on a deck or a patio--no thumping bass of course, but enough bass for a good full sound...
There was very little on the Net on this specific model and very little on the Marantz Gold Series as a whole...I was really pleased with this purchase and am on the hunt for a viable example of the physically larger, PMS 3020 box in this line.....

Nice box - the gold theme does look high end and Marantz always made good stuff. I noticed the line in function. Is a true line in?

Congrats,

James.... :-)

According to the manual it is a real line in---the manual discusses using a phonograph with the unit through the line in---?

Congrats! And very cool "Gold" brochure! Does it have my PMS-3500 in it?
It does---the brochure opens up like a Chinese puzzle with one side forming a poster of all the Gold series, portable products.
The 3500 is displayed in the central photo with the rest of the line--but on the edges of the poster the complete specs for the 3500 are listed, as are the specs for the other items displayed..several of which are portable stereo cassette recorders.
