I just saw this Best Buy commercial for speakers disguised as rocks, for use in the yard when one is entertaining guests.
The Best Buy rep narrates:"Just take your husbands old Boom-Box and hide it, then replace it with these speakers, he'll wonder where this great sound is coming from". The commercial show's a wife storing what looks to be a cool JVC in the cabinet while her hubby is out.
While I was cringing from this ad, the very next commercial was for McCdonalds. In attempt to convey a sense of "hip ness" they show people laughing, eating, and dancing on the streets of New York with Boom-Boxes. Two Lasonics and one Crown, I think.
So what's it going to be, Popular Media? Are Boom-boxes cool are not?
Cause we already know the answer.

If that's a JVC PC-150 or 200 he carrying in the video, the rocks would have to have more bass  It would be hard to imagine the rocks being anywhere near as loud as the JVC though.

Notice the pain on the guys face as it takes two hands to haul the boombox through the kitchen. And the look on her face when she says "old" boombox. It is hurts to watch her. Never explained in the video is the other equipment that the wife needed to buy or the wiring strung around the patio and in the lawn. Sure it can be done the "right way" but c'mon this is Best Buy. A bunch of pimple-faced kids getting paid just above minimum wage getting billed out at 8 times what they are making.... but they are kids... they "know" electronics.

If they did a follow up dad had cut the wires to the rock speakers with the weed whacker and shorted out the stereo in the house. Ants found their way though the hole in the wall that the BB installer drilled to run the speaker wire, infesting the entire kitchen resulting in a $20,000 remodel. And Dad went back to using his boombox because he could not tune in a decent radio station inside the house anyway.

Total Bill-

Insigna Rock Speakers - $230
120 wpc 7.1 Surround Sound Processor/Amp sold by BB to power those speakers - $499
CD Player - $79
100 feet of Monster Cable - $200
Installation by the Geek Squad - $299
Kitchen Remodel - $20,000

Being able to listen to your old boombox again - Priceless

Two weeks later Jazmin got caught giving a hand-job to the stock room manager in exchange for setting aside a PS-3 for her unemployed boyfriend. She lost her job the same day she found out she was pregnant. She had to sell her Ford Focus and move back home and share a bedroom with her half-brother who always looks under the bathroom door to watch her undress.

It's all up there all the time... sometimes it just comes out...

The trick is to not take things too far. It is a fine line... :fly-kite:

Musical rocks? Nah, that's crap. I'd rather have a nice boomer, sat in a noticeable position on a table.

Besides, could you imagine the thread's name?

....."What ROCKS are you rocking right now?"  :-P :annoyed: :nonono:

Don't even go there. :-D
