So my fleaBay radio arrived a day early with a broken cassette deck door. One of the tabs is missing. I hear loose crap in the box. The packaging was less than stellar but overall the radio made it intact. I put word out to the eBay seller about the door since it was not sold as broken.

Everything works except the spatial stereo knob. The green stereo LED does not light up. The pots are scratchy and will need cleaning. Not sure about the stereo part yet. The cabinet is in excellent condition for its age. The sound is actually quite good. Seemingly better than my Sanyo as this one has more bass punch. I don't know why there is so much hate for this box aside from what I can tell is a shite quality of feel to it. So in the end, I was a little disappointed in this one. It looks like someone already opened the case as there is a sliver of plastic trying to squeeze out of the side of the box. Not sure what it is yet. I have a long trip tomorrow so I didn't want to dig into this thing yet let alone see what the seller will say. Worst case I hope someone may have a spare cassette door.

Thanks for hearing my rant..

Sometimes happens bad things during shipping.
I hope you can find the way to repair broken door.

When you open it, up you may be able to find the missing piece. If you do, you might be able to repair it using JB Weld. With the frequency of damage that's done to boxes during shipping (mainly from poor quality packing) I have taken to photographing and/or videotaping the unpacking of all boomboxes I've purchased through Ebay. This is useful documentation for any claims that may have be necessary due to damage caused by shoddy shipping.

Yep, I've been videotaping opening packages for a few years now. I actually had someone send me a bag of sand once (different forum & hobby).

I like these despite so many negative remarks over the years, even the D8614 is cheap to handle but will always be a real fav of mine! I want 1 of these broken or not! As long as it's complete & cosmetically clean Oh & cheapish too then maybe I'll get one! Think you will be able to fix yours buddy, approach it with a refreshed mind & set of eyes - there is always a way....

Thanks for the upbeat comments. I guess I was cranky and tired when I received the radio. I had contacted the seller and she says she uses the money to help homeless people and such. They are a charity based organization. She asked me what I wanted. I told her if she ever gets another boom box of any type to give me first shot at it. I left my email address. In the end, she was happy and promised to do so. I told her to make sure all sides are padded on the next one! I really didn't want any money taken back for it or to ship it back. It is what it is.

If anyone has a spare door, let me know. I'll gladly pay for it. In the meantime, I will see if I can fabricate something to get this one to work.

I have one , its not the best looking but it's complete. I might have some spare parts because I want to mod one of these and add a small BT amp and remove the tape deck . I'll have to check the deck out and see if the gears are good , buy also will have a spare control board with the spatial stereo pot .

Thanks Floyd! I may take you up on the offer. I found the broken tab and crazy glued it. I don't know if it really will work. I have a gear coming from an eBay seller who makes them. It's amazing how the original gear feels like jelly. It's that soft and deteriorated. Crazy
I'll know better on the board if thats the cause or not once I get the thing back together. Right now, there are tons of glue holding the broken bits before I can touch it.
Either way, I'll PM you if I need those parts.

What a beautiful box but yes shipping is a crap shoot. Some are good others are pathetic.

I've not had a lot of success with Crazy Glue and moving parts like door hinges but you never know. Very nice offer of JVC Floyd's door as a replacement. I'd probably go that route given my luck with adhesives and boomboxes
