hey guys...last week I was on vacation so I decided to go ahead and paint my m90 that I recieved from my co worker...at first this radio was a real mess speakers were shot amp was no good only had the right channel working and it was very low   ....But with the help of some members here I was able to get parts  ...So after spending about a month in the repar shop this old grail was playing again and might i say very very loud...I recently brought this box to a car show and my friends said what the hell is that .....My reply was mean ,wicked ,ugly ,nasty...  ..When i turned it on they couldn't belive what they heard.. ..So I had some time to start this project....I took this box all apart, the cassing went for a dunk in the tub to was all the years away....I began to sand prep repair the cassing and after a couple of hours it was ready to prime and paint....there waer some tedious issues that relly needed some attention like the tape deck door that was faded all the way down to the raw plastic ...also had red paint spatter on it ....but with some time I was able to sand it off and polished out the glass then i was able to mask and paint what needed to be done .....over all this is not a perfect box there are still some issues where the lettering is on the volume and around all the tape controls ...but it is much better than it was ....still need to work on the back cover and the handel so that is today's project...here are some pics of my progress..........

Thanks guys ... This one was a real p.i.a to do but I'm happy the way it turned out.. It's not perfect but it is a lot better.. Also I saw the m90 at the west coast meet with the double label on the door ... Just one of those things I had to do .. I love the look ... Thanks fat dog .. I was saving that label for this project    here is a pic outside on battery power.

jimmy --great work as usual

did you consider painting the woofs with that cool jvc blue ?
thanks ira that was my first choice was to do them blue ...but the only paint i could find in that color was way to thick on a swatch that i tried .....so the black worked so much better and i was able to cover light and quick so I went with that

Dude, amazing job!
Please tell me, does painting the woofers influence the sound by any means? I am so scared of it with any boomer  .
I wanna paint the woofer of my 20/20 white again but I am scared they will somehow deform and then sound scratchy.... :hmmm:
One thing I would recommend is getting a new chrome dust cap though ;-) . Love the black on the speakers!

Max I don't notice a difference in sound after I paint woofers .. I do them in very thin coat just to color them... Some might say it does but from my experience so far I didn't notice any difference.. I'm Shure if you put a very heavy coat on them it will change the sound.. I would love to put shinny new caps on these .. I had no choice but to spay them the chrome was so faded you could see the voice coils

Max I actually painted the speakers on my Lasonic TRC975 twice. The 1st time is when I first got interested in collecting I repaired and cleaned my 975, but the white speakers were nasty yellow. So only paint I had was black in a can. So I used a brush and put on a coat.

After a couple months I really hated the look of the black so I got some white paint and put a coat on.

Let me tell you the speakers now have much more bass now. I did however buy a used pair of white Lasonic speakers if I ever need to change originals. But for now the originals are staying in :-)
