Hey y'all! I've got two M70's I'm working on combining to get a real cherry.

After gently wiggling the acrylic tuner plates off both boxes and pulling the metal strip off with a little heat I'm ready to reattach. I don't think it's a job for epoxy or anything heavy duty, but I don't wanna use super glue either. The metal strip was attached with tape. Then there's that black glue that's all scribbled on. What kind of glue... or maybe tape... would you guys use ?

I'm worried if I use the wrong stuff on the plate it could eat through the backing and screw up the lettering... yikes! :annoyed:

I would be very careful using strong adhesives. Our friends here will have better suggestions.

In my case I use Loctite vinyl, fabric and plastic adhesive. It got good adhesion to Al also.

In case you want to pull it out you can use mild heat and pull it out.

I always use black rtv to reattach my M70 tuner windows and trims. I squirt some in a small glob on a paper plate and use a toothpick to scoop and apply.

:agree:

I've tried a few different adhesives and the black RTV is the winner when it comes to attaching aluminum to acrylic. Thin permamnent double-sided tape bites plastics well, but not the smooth backing (when cleaned) on the aluminum trims.

Anything that dries rock hard I would stay away from. RTV has a nice rubbery cure and trims could probably be peeled away with some care if you had to.

RTV is usually in any automotive section of a store. I get black because I build engines for people and also need the black RTV for that.

Ps, it is gooey. Try not to put on more than you need because it is kind of a pain to clean up anything that squeezes out.
