Today I looked on Craigslist, thumb-punched "Boombox" into the search bar, and scrolled till I saw a listing for 5 boomboxes/monoboxes.

Among those 5 boxes, four were seemingly O.K. Sanyo/GE, but the 5th and largest one caught my attention. It was also the flashiest.

It was a Lucky Goldstar TSR-581, the model with the quartz clock display and minimal facial appearance. I had finally found my first "real decent" four-driver boombox for a reasonable price, not some Egg/low-end wide-range w/fake tweeter chinesium Crapola.

The only thing is, The seller wants to sell all five boxes for $75, and I'm basically only interested in that Goldstar...I don't have the space for several more crap-boxes. I suppose I could donate those four to GW but, I kinda want to make a small profit outta 'em.

Anyway, here's a couple (albeit meh) pictures of the LG by seller: 20210223_221801.jpg

Only cosmetic issues are that there's a crack on the acrylic plate protecting the tuner dial, and both telescoping antennas are broken/missing.

Should I jump on it for the price of $75 (along with four other pieces of crap to me) while I still have the opportunity, or are there better deals that I could be waiting for? My birthday is in 5 months (July 26th), so I have plenty of time to search :-)

It's a heavy, good-sounding box if it's working right. I've never seen one with a working clock though.

Well, as a bit of an update I've since bought the Goldstar. More information about it can be read in my "Bundle of Boxes" thread.

Put my dmm clamped onto the battery terminals to ensure 1.5v is leaving the compartment.
I then shimmed some small plastic pieces cut from a phone screen protector into the edges on the front of the display to put pressure on the screen.
A bit of trial and error to test while still checking 1.5v is flowing, then carefully mount back into the front ensuring pressure is not affected on the LCD.
You do not need to remove the silver casing around the actual LCD like I did, just slide shims into the sides and top and bottom front as necessary.

I don't know whether the clock on my unit works or not, cause the battery terminals are rusted.

I've also noticed that the outputs for the Headphone Jack are mixed - The left channel is the right channel, and the right channel is the left. The internal drivers are hooked as they should.

I've also discovered that most of the screws holding the faceplate to the rest of the body are missing - only two remain on the right side, and if I really push those woofers, the cabinet will rattle like crazy.
