We've been getting lots of new members asking about these particular problems with there boomers. I've done search and couldn't find any thread so I've decided to make thread so they can do search and find answer ;-)

1. Buy can of deoxit or a contact switch cleaner.

2. Take boombox apart and take plenty of pictures to remember how you've done so.

3. Sometimes you have to remove frame or other parts to get to switches and/or pots.

4. With straw on can put into small hole on switches/pots

5. Spray small amount into hole trying not to spray excess amount in or around area.

6. Work switch/pot each direction 20-30 times.

7. Wipe excess cleaner and let dry 10 minutes.

8. Before closing box up...test it..

9. If problems persist try once again spraying cleaner into problem switch/pot and follow same directions.

10. If problem is fixed put back together using pics you took.

Remember this is only a solution to alleviate problem switches/pots. It's always best to take them completely apart to clean them fully. But if your not tech savvy this is best solution, but same problem may arise down road.

P.S. while box is apart you may also want to clean box and deck parts and replace belts!!!

I think care needs to be taken about what KIND of deoxit you use. They make several versions, and some might not be good for plastics. I have noticed that some toggle switches that were sprayed do not have that nice "click click" feel anymore. I suspect it's because the wrong kind of Deoxit was used, or maybe too much of it, and it melted the plastic inside the switch. Or, maybe too much was used, and it stayed in there forever, making the switch feel greasy instead of precise.

The ideal approach would be to take the switch apart, like Bill said. But if you just want to spray it instead, I would recommend using some kind of syringe instead, so that you could inject only a small amount at the exact spot, instead of spraying a larger amount that attracts dirt. You can buy "basic" Deoxit (I think it's called D5) that is pure liquid and does not have any compressed gas or solvents. I am going to try that, and get a syringe with a very long needle.
