Hello all!

I've had this JVC ZpC-70 for quite a while and did restoration work on it a couple of times when it needed it. However, I no longer have the tools of the trade for any repairs anymore.

Therefore, I'm asking if there is anyone out there that can repair this unit for me; has much sentimental value, so it's one I want to keep around for a while.

The problems involve the tape deck. It makes a rubbing sound as though the belts need to be replaced. (I did that a few years back - and do play and record cassettes often.)

Sound comes out of the right channel only when the deck is in use, but both channels are fine when using the tuner or a device hooked up to the AUX input.

Recording overall is deplorable. Nothing heard out of the left channel, and the right material isn't completely erased (you can hear it faintly) when an attempt is made to record something new over the old.

I'm in Modesto, California and am willing to ship the unit to someone that can do the work for me. It seems the recent long heatwave made it a problem child of sorts.

If I do ship, would I have to send the speakers with it?

Any questions or comments would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Loyd

We're not really restorers-for-hire. Your best bet is to find a shop in Cali to take on the liability and do the work. I know there are at least a couple there that will accept boomboxes, perhaps someone can chime in with more info on where they are. Sending it to someone you don't know from here opens a box of issues you're not going to like, i.e. it gets busted in transit, the recipient damages it (and now you want them to pay for that), and so on. But be prepared to pay more for the repairs than the box is worth.
