Looking for my first box, I love the look of the trc-935, or the helix hx-4636

Are they good radios please?

The Lasonic sounds pretty good......The Helix is "OK" but less so

Both need care during shipping because shiny-black plastic isn't as thick as other types of plastic

The problem is that most of them will come from the states, and I'm in the uk

The Helix 4636 is quite common in europe, especially in germany - but with a different brand: Search for Watson RR-5600, which is basically the same as the Helix. Shipping from germany to UK might be less expensive and sometimes a bit safer (since the distance is shorter). Sound is - as stated - "OK", but it's a nice starter boombox ( i love the looks of it!)

The Lasonic indeed is a rare bird in this neck of the woods..

Shipping from Germany to the UK is pretty much the same as within the UK, it’s a really good source of radios for us UK people. Getting them from the US is always gonna be expensive, high cost to get it over the Atlantic and our damned tax. So if you’re gonna do that make sure it’s a goodun. I’ve had a few from the US that I couldn’t get in the UK

The Helix 4636 does not have a line in, the TRC-935 has line in and line out. IMO, the 935 has way more features, sounds better, looks better and more importantly is BIGGER!
