Hey guys,

I am interested in adding some LED lights to my GE boombox. I see a few of you guys have done this. Where is a good place to buy these? Is there a certain voltage I need to get? I would just like to light up the tuner and the sweep meters. I figure just wire it into the power switch so they come on when the box is on. Any help is appreciated. I searched for a thread on this topic but only found much more complex mods. Thanks!

Mouser and DigiKey are excellent, they sport an enormous selection, though someone on here that's more involved with LED mods may know of a better place.

The power switch should work fine, although the output of the main regulator may be a safer move.

Try the dollar store - toy section
there are many toys with LEDs in them
for white LED theres the flash lights :-)

LEDs take only 1-2v to run & wiring them directly to the power or DC supply would pop them in a millisecond. You have to drop the voltage to them using the right 1/4 or 1/2 watt resistors & create a LED circuit for the various LEDs you want to use...

Hi, It doesn't need to be any more complicated than your original idea! You can get LEDs for cars that are designed to run a 12v, here are some that I wired directly into the DC side of my oldest boomer :chris920:

Pretty neat Smeats. What is that old thing?
hi tippy! it's a telefunken concertino 2194
It was beyond repair so I put in a new T-class amp, 12v power supply and some 6x9" Alpine speakers (and LEDs) to make it boom again! ;-)

I feel like a tube-radio racist. They just all look the same to me......
You're right a lot do look very similar! I just went for the nicest looking one going for spares or repair on ebay at the time! I gave my dad a chance to fix it cos he knows a bit about valve radios but he said it was "donald ducked" and I already had plans if it was not fixable!
