Leaving batteries in box, bad practice?

I'm a newbie and was wondering if it's a good practice to leave all your batteries out of the box when you know you don't need to use em. I would imagine it would not only drain the batteries, but it might not be ideal for the box as well in case corrosion or anything decides to start up. Just wondering if it's a normal practice for all you collectors to not have any batteries in them aside from when you actually need them for use.

These are from being left for years, if you listen to it every once in a while you can leave them in there and as long as they are not dead... Dead batteries leak  :sadno:

Yes, that is what I have been told. As with any battery operated device this will happen  :sadno:
