I think I need to switch forums or something ! Although I claim my residency here by possessing at least two boxes :-)

Well here's the latest score and I'm finding my interest in retro audio gear is beginning to rear its head on the back of searching for boomboxes ! Acquired all these for $25 NZD + $20 for shipping.....

I reckon this is a win-win, because I want the Technics CD player to complement my recently acquired Technics midi system, there's a JVC 'video CD' karaoke player for the wife to play with, and there's Kenwood and TEAC players as a bonus :-)

There is a thread for this stuff called Other: amps receivers turntables, etc.
Down on the bottom of the forums page.

Apologies for the sort-of double posting but I'm relatively new here and just discovered there's actually a forum for 'other audio' lol. These are posted in the general area too, so if any adimns are reading this please feel free to remove the other posts.

A little background on me - I've always liked 'retro' audio ever since my dad built his own Heathkit (remember them ?) amplifier and tuner way back when. I also admired the high end stuff of the 80s such as all the great Technics, Marantz etc gear that I could never afford to buy myself on student wages....
In the 90s I built a nice little component system with a Mission Cyrus One, Denon tape deck, Mission 701's and a pretty old Toshiba XR-J9 cd player which lasted me for years.

Fast forward to now and I'm joining the growing numbers thirsting for the good old days ! Having acquired a Toshiba boombox from a friend, it ignited my interest in all things retro audio and after some local enquires I was given the following :-

This little Techincs system came up nice after a clean and it's now attached to my spare Eltax Monitor III speakers -

After a little searching on Trademe (the Ebay of New Zealand) for a suitable Technics CD player to finish the little rig, I spotted these for the silly sum of $25 NZD so I hit the 'buy now' button !!

So that's me for now, awaiting arrival of new toys, enjoying old ones and on the lookout for further scores. Cheers :-)

Nice, what happened to the Technics turntable?
It's just in my workshop waiting for attention to the lid hinges (why do they always break ?) and a bit of a clean. Just bought some vinyl today from a thrift store (Roxy Music and Kate Bush ! ) to test it with.

So here we are with an update on the ever growing Technics stack. I have cleaned the turntable up and tested it and I have now added a Technics component CD player to the stack from the $25 lot that I bought. The CD had a playback issue which seemed to be related to the tray not closing properly. I removed the cover and found that someone had engaged the transport lock with the tray in the open position and the lock and become fouled under the tray mechanism. I simply disengaged the lock, lubed the tray runners and hey presto CD playback resumed :-)

I read up on the other players in my $25 bundle and it seems the JVK XL-SV22 is something of a prize as it is a pro-level CD+G karaoke player. It seems to work fine, so I'm going to find a little monitor to sit on top of it and a couple of mics and let the wife have some fun with it - just download a Sunfly 80s CD+G compilation so she can sing her heart out lol.

Here's the stack as it sits now, just want to add a better (Technics) turntable, a graphic EQ (because I like the flashing lights and sliders), some better speakers (hopefully Technics) and repair the tape decks (they play badly and do not rewind or fast forward at all). Sorry for the bad pic, mobile in darkness = not good focus !!

It's looking darn good - don't stop now!
Hey thanks, I'm happy with it. Definitely hunting for a better TT, some 'meatier' speakers and an EQ. Ideally, I'd really like the complete retro component stack but sadly the price of Technics amps seems to put that out of my budget. I suppose I need to keep in mind that total outlay for this rig is currently $25 NZ so I shouldn't get carried away !!!

Very nice stack you have. My dad was a repair tech for 45+ years. (He's 69 now...) He taught me 99% of what I know. I built my first Heathkit receiver when I was 9 years old. A whopping 7 watts RMS per channel, but good watts they were with some home made Radio Shack (when they were really "Radio Shack") speakers. :-)
