Latest on chrome restoration/alternatives?

Hi all, last I checked restoring chrome trim on boomboxes was very difficult or impossible but I was wondering if there have been any advances in the last few years that are worth looking at? I have a Panasonic RX-5150 that is in good shape but the chrome is in bad shape/peeled away in some spots. It also needs a full repaint, while I can handle painting silver, the chrome is a different story.

I was also wondering if anyone has painted chrome trim something other than chrome and if that has worked out/looked good?

Thanks

I ran across a video of a guy testing cheap solutions (link) and liked how one of them looked.
Watch from the 6 minute mark.

There's even gold chrome, as well as blue, red, and three shades of pink.
I picked up the kit from Amazon (link) but haven't tried it yet

Later when he shows all of them, it has the sharpest reflections.
Not sure why, but perhaps it's because he used a different gloss coat (nail polish lacquer vs. gloss black lacquer)

The RX-5150 has some chrome around the speakers, but the rest is just brushed aluminum
