I got this at my town dump, free of course. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it so I carted it home. When carried it has great balance and the curved base sits nicely against your leg. The CD player controls are intuitive and the tuner section sensitive for both AM & FM. It runs on 6X D-batteries and has a provision for an external 9VDC supply which I need to track down. Sound is decent up to moderate levels but beyond that it starts to distort badly with or without the "MegaBass" control engaged. Below distortion level, the bass bump is nice. I can't complain too much about distortion or max playing level as the unit is not very big. The speakers are ~3.50" in diameter and are each in ported enclosures. Although it does play CD-R's with MP3 files (nice!), it does not have an AUX input which is a major boo boo on SONY's part. I'd guess this unit was developed right before the onslaught of MP3 players & iPods in the late 90's. It did have a broken antenna nub but I made a get-by fix for it -
