I know there is a topic about Lasonic bringing old parts back. But I have a feeling they are gonna start building complete 80's boomboxes soon. It just seems the likely next step from parts to complete boomboxes. What are your thoughts.

I already spoke my piece on that, but I'll add that if they do start making "new old boxes", they change the graphics slightly and give all of those boxes an "r" (for retro or reissue) designation, as in TRC-931r, TRC-920r and so on.

...let's just hope they stay away from using stickers. Nothing cheezes up electronics like the use of stickers.

good on lasonic for doing this. they really could have sold a ton more if they would have started this sooner .
i mean this for sure is good news . i would like to see more power and more size.
who knows what they will bring out next. i think they can see this product the i931 has a ton of interest and i am also pretty sure that it sold pretty good.
this is a good thing.
i think that if it was available up here i would have bought a i931 a long time ago but its not.
i dont think anyone sells lasonic in bc.
there were some gougers at a shady op store down town selling the i931 for 500 bucks when they first came out but i doubt they got many takers on that. i mean they really should be selling these at london drugs up here. i would buy one for sure.

Bill, I believe that Lasonic bringing back out their old school boxes is wishful thinking on everyones part. ;-) Until it's made official, I won't really invest too much time thinking about it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a miracle tho! :-D However, if they do drop, I hope they're limited release boxes and available only thru pre-order from Lasonic's website. After all, do we really want almost anybody getting their hands on these "new but old" gems? Just have to worry about jackasses buying 'em and putting 'em up for sale on eBay with higher prices.

I just finished cutting down the woofer baffles in my i931ww like I did in my former i931 and came to the conclusion that while there was a slight improvement in bass, the TRC-931 will still out-bass it with relative ease. I'm not sure if the baffles need to be completely removed to get the bass closer to TRC-931 levels, but right now, the bass is still "hollow" - it just doesn't hit hard. That said, if Lasonic does decide to re-release TRC models, they better NOT add woofer baffles. :nonono: Also, they better NOT cut down on the ventilation on the back cabinet 'cause that's part of the reason for Lasonic's incredible bass. :nonono: Besides, the woofers sound infinitely better in the bass reflex friendly cabinet. I don't know what Lasonic was trying to do, but I think sealed chambers for the i931 woofers was and still is a VERY bad design idea.

mono you are right one billion percent.
i mean i kind of misread this post.
there is not any chance of any company reissuing complete redos of old models.
tape is not coming back and it would be pretty much economic suicide for any company to mass produce a new tape player.
its not gonna happen never .
i could see them doing larger versions and smaller versions of what they are already doing.
the tape mechanism is dead.
lasonic for me is the budget minded brand . i mean they have made some great looking and even decent sounding boxes but the quality is not the same league as old sanyo or old jvc.
mono you are totally correct.
i mean the truth of it is kids dont by tapes bands dont release tapes and tape is just not economically viable in this era.
there will always be people who are going to want vinyl records.
tapes on the other hand i am most certain wont be back.
it started to get a bit trendy for a ever so short time for the arty crowd to do a cassette release but that pretty much dissapeared as fast as it started.
so mono i agree that old school boxes made completely like the 80s stuff wont happen.
i dont want to sound pessimistic but just realistic.
honestly i kind of am happy that boomboxes are a fringey culty kind of thing.
i mean i sort of like that a bit better.
yeah it would be cool to go down and be able to buy a brand new m90 but to be honest its cooler the way things are now.
most of us have some great boomboxes and the desire to obtain more.
i guess in someway its like having a real ac shelby cobra vs having one of the exact copies produced in south africa.
both are very nice but there is something about the box with the worn corners and smoothed out plastic where the former users fingers have been on it.
thats just me.
good on the lasonic for aknowledging that there is a fringe group of people who are still in love with old school boomers.
thats a great thing.
really tho i think our numbers are maybe in the tens of thousands globally maybe a few more who knows for sure.
its cooler to be part of the fringe than run of the mill i think.

Aside from the Cassette Tape point of view (which is true, tapes ain't coming back!) if Lasonic still owns all the molds for these radios, then it would cost nothing to remake them!

AND if they are planning on making replacement parts for just a few collectors, that in it's self could be a sign that they DO still own the molds for all these parts.

I'm sure everyone can agree, it's the cost of the molds that are the high dollar end of manufacturing, not the design work, especially with today's computer design software.

So with that said, if they own the molds, old boxes could show up. If they don't still have the molds, I wouldn't hold your breath!

BUT if they don't own the molds, how could it be financially feasible to make a speaker grill or a function switch mold for 8 people that can't find one!

I'm not sure where all this is going, but I'm damn sure going to watch it play out and save my money for when and if Lasonic puts out a new "Old" radio!

HEY LASONIC, STOP PULLING OUR CHAIN, GET ON THIS WEBSITE AND TELL US YOUR PLAN!

I just sent this email to Lasonic and asked them straight up!

Hello Lasonic,

As a fan of your classic boom boxes as well as your new i931, I wanted to write to you to show you the interest that is being generated by your mention that you will be making parts for your vintage radios. I'm not sure if your company has been following the many forum discussions related to this subject over at http://www.boomboxery.com but you may want to sign up and have a look.

I guess the real question that many of us would like to know is:

Do you plan on building full versions of some of your classic boom boxes like the TRC-920, TRC-935, TRC-975?

I noticed you guys sell your own MP3 players. Will you offer a boom box that uses those players instead of the iPod (I'm not an iPod fan). It would be nice to buy it as a package, with the MP3 player in the unit!

Thank you for your time. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Chris
