So I came across this Lasonic for $40. It was actually in California where i used to live, so I had my dad pick it up months ago. This week I was finally able to come by and grab it. It's missing the antennas, knobs, and most of the buttons don't work. I have to shove something in the radio switch to keep the radio on, i can't get th3 CD or Tape buttons depressed at all. Havent had a chance to clean this up or open it up but im excited to try my hand at this beast. Sounds great it's humongous but man is the quality lacking compared to the Panasonics i own. I had this lady staring at it while i was carrying it into the hotel today. Hahaha Also, Check out this awful SIXTY DOLLAR "boombox" they're trying to sell at Urban Outfitters...ok it's not awful it's actually pretty cute, but $60 is wayyy too much

That UO boombox is old news. Hate the boombox. Their record players are hot garbage as well. As for the 975, parts shouldn't be too hard to come up with (even though I've been missing two knobs for ages). For $40, I'd say it was a good deal either way.

I loaded up the beast with 10 D cells and took her to the beach. It was quite the scene.

I got home today cleaned her up and inspected the switches. Managed to get the radio switch to work, as for the tape and CD switches I'll need to find new ones or swap them with the short wave switch or something. I dunno.

Nothing beats a good beater box, especially if its big and powerful. They actually become useless the more you try to make em look good lol.

Haha yeah...it was nice taking it to the beach because it was already pretty beat up, it didn't really matter. This'll probably end up being my drive-ins boombox. I'd like to at least get the other speaker guard though.

Took it to the drive in, unfortunately their signal is very weak and i had to turn it nearly all the way up just to hear anything. I also glued and used an epoxy to reattach 3 of the plastic pieces used to screw the box together. As for the switches, ugh, well apparently they'll slide out if you pull hard enough. Wish i knew this before I tore up the switch thingamajig. Anyways, I'm going tje ghetto route and glued some extra plastic on the ends of the switches so i can push and pull them to engage and disengage the tape and CD sources. Oh yeah, i also resoldered the input and mic plugs back into the board. They somehow broke loose from the original solder.

I gotta say, i originally bought this to try and fix it, make it decent and resell it, but I have really enjoyed working and listening to this box. Heck, even just looking at it gives me a smile.

Sooner or later you can turn it into a nice looking box. Just wait for the parts to show up. When it all works it is a very decent box to have. I have one and I love it. It is different! It is not an M90 or RX5350, but got some personality of its own.
