I'm interested in maybe obtaining a Lasonic TRC-935, but curious if it's for me. I know it's tacky, cheaply built, and rarely shows up with working decks. What I want to know is the following:

1. Is it true some have fake tweeters?
2. What ohmage and wattage are the woofers rated for?
3. What is the amplifier rated for, RMS?
4. How's the battery life on alkaline cells?
5. Does it lose full amplifier power on batteries, like some high-power boxen?
6. How much does it weigh, sans batteries? Plus or minus a few pounds is okay.

I'm not sure I even need the extra power - five watts per channel is hellaciously loud - but I want a box with bassy eight inch cones to placate the boomcar youth yahoos that make fun of my other gear. Having something 30 inches wide in my hand might look bitchin' too, no lie.

Thanks.

From my understanding the 935/951/975 are simular except for the body :-) But I am not 100% I do know I own the 975 since new and its a very bassy box :-D

The bass tones on the 975 are very low. Good sounding box too, not the loudest but very good.

While its true that Lasonic's are not Sharp or Panasonic quality, they are good radio's especially if you find a nice one in good condition. As for decks, like most of these radio's of this age, it's usually belts....no big deal.

I just recently got a 935 and I will try my best to answer your questions.

1. Is it true some have fake tweeters?
The tweeters are real. The only Lasonic that I know of that had fake tweeters was the TRC-920T (?????)

2. What ohmage and wattage are the woofers rated for?
I haven't opened this radio up yet, but they are probably the same Lucky brand speakers that are in the 931 and they are 4 ohm, 35 watts.

3. What is the amplifier rated for, RMS?
This I do not know

4. How's the battery life on alkaline cells?
Lasonic's tend to be battery Hogs, but with reasonable use a few hours a day, they will last weeks.

5. Does it lose full amplifier power on batteries, like some high-power boxen?
I haven't noticed this. It's damn loud plugged in or not!

6. How much does it weigh, sans batteries? Plus or minus a few pounds is okay.
I just threw mine on the scale, it's 23 lbs with Duracell batteries, probably 21 with rechargeables.

I have to say, I'm happy with mine. It's going to get new belts here very soon, so I will have both decks working. They kind of work now, but I will fix that. The EQ is great and you can really dial in different styles of music. I CRANKS! Very Loud, People love the looks of it and are magnetized to the LED display and the fully lite EQ.

I think you'll be happy if you pick one up. Just the shear size of it, is good enough reason!

Perhaps that box isn't for you. ;-)
