Like many of the Lasonic TRC 9XX models, the antenna clips on my TRC-935 were busted off. The worst part is, the antenna's swing wildly when you walk with the radio. I have, (i'm sure like many have) used electrical tape to hold them in place. The problem with that is, if you want to use the antenna's, you have to fool around with the tape.

So, I decided to come up with a permanent solution.

I made new spring clips out of stainless steel sheet metal.

First, I started by preparing the old mounts....

I ground them down with a dremill tool....

Next was to cut small strips, The fuse is there to show size...

Next, bend the shape needed and drill two holes in each....

Two screws and a dab of hot glue gun to seal them and guarantee no rattles....

THERE, working antenna clips

With all the recent work I did to this radio, I couldn't stomach putting electrical tape on the antenna's again. With the exception of getting a new rear case with perfect clips, this was my only alternative.

Great repair/mod - would you consider painting them black?

Yep, totally plan on doing that. The only issue is, because of where the antenna makes contact, the paint will probably chip away.

Is it possible to have Stainless Steel Powder Coated?

Thanks Floyd, I know you know a thing or two about Bionic Boomboxes!

Slick repair...nice work :)
Thanks Notherner....Now I just need to fix up the 975....

So here is the $50 question....The 975 has only one antenna tab busted.....do I replace just one in metal, or do I bust off the other one and replace them both? OR, do I go through the laborious task of swapping the back off the 951 (which has perfect tabs) for the 975 and tediously removing the rear case ID stickers THEN bust off the tab to replace both on the 951, which is kind of beat up?

I'm sure when some members look at mod's like this they just wanna F'n PUKE

But this is about necessity. There have been many times where I was ready to do some blasting, opened the trunk to pull out my radio and the antenna's are flopping around, wadded up in the handle, struggling to get things straightened out and not look like a total poser!

OR Worse, I'm trying to get the antenna's up to find a radio station and the electrical tape has melted in the sun and turned to a black goo that is now on my hands and my clothes and on the radio

Yes, it is, but on the other hand, stainless does polish up well. ;-)
I did do a little polishing of the clips, but I need new antenna's anyways, so when I get those, I will either polish the tabs or paint them
