For something so apparently cheaply made, crappy knobs, made to break function switch (god the straining plastic sounds when you grab the handle!) , it sounds awesome!! loud, heavy base, good tuner, nice mids. It really is a nice box :yes: , the cheap build hides some great guts in my opinion. and is an attention getter for sure, a whole stack of boxes and people just go straight for it....

def one of my favs...

i can tell you guys to be honest i have the m90 but i have been playing with this box i could really swear that it sounds so close to my m90 :yes: :yes: the bass is amazing not just bass i mean deep pounding bass i have to glue the chrome caps i thought it was a blown speaker with all that rattling going on :lol: :lol: but its a great box and yes the switch but i am going to look into this to see if by any chance there is a way to resolve and maybe try to build a switch using the original parts as it seems that the plastic shaft and little wheel with teeth get broken often maybe a little plasic resin and a little time involved ,, the lasonic were to me a cheaply made box but still i think its an awesome box to have uhmm i am thinking now about the 975 :yes: :yes: :yes: :lol:

The TRC-931 I own, absolutely nothing works except the more important features: the power button, the loudness switch, the balance knob, the EQ and the line-in... My box is only operating at who knows (50?) % with a blown tweeter, but still,... the last time I played it, it had better bass than every box I own. :yes:

I still wanna get another 1st edition TRC-931 - in much better mechanical and physical condition of course! :-D Perhaps the box that started it all for me back in late 1986/early 1987 will be the very same box that ends it all.

mono i belive that the 931 is the box to have i mean you get 8 in speakers oh not rated at 5 or 10 watts but a good 20 watts they may have killed it with some terrible switches especialy the funtion switch but being able to find one would be great , but i had never had at least the bigger lasonic but have heard the likes of the 918 920 even the little 919 and was amazed how well it sounded as i have these so ,, hopefully you could find a real good one soon i will probably now try to find a 975 :yes:

Wow, I've only held a 931 briefly
I've got the 920 tho and it's not cheaply built all. It's pretty solid and heavy
It appears to have a weighted tuning nob and the cassette door opens slowly.
With so few Lasonic designs, I wonder what made them change up in craftsmanship from the 930 to the 931?
This is my first Lasonic tho
I feel that it is a whole new group of boxery, Like the Helix and the Conion.
I love this Boom-box

Cheers OSS :afro:

thats ok if it just the knob but if it the switch itself then not good as this is mostly the part that breaks the most on the 920 :'-( :'-(

It's the switch and it's stuck on phono.
But at least my ipod shuffle plays and the LEDs show.
I'm still happy. :-)

i always thought lasonics were the best cheap boxes on the market they do thump good regardless of any other weaknesses in the design ,i mean if your'e going to sell them cheap you have to make them cheap its that simple, another thing is lasonics look cool ,aside from the cheesy gold chain graphics on the i 931a cheap ass handle and poor fm reception its a respectable sounding box for under $150.00 new.
