Hey guys, I'm still wading into these waters, so forgive me if this has been discussed at length already.

I'm aware of a decent amount of the visual differences in the first few generations of TRC-931 Lasonics, but what about the sound quality? Does a 1st gen sound the same as a 3rd gen, or a 2nd? What are the noticeable differences? Bass better or worse? Louder or quieter? I'm assuming the redesigns involved more than just looks.

Has anyone ever done a side by side comparison?

I can tell you this the first edition lasonic 931 is the highest quality version they ever made and to my ears the loudest.

Darn...I think I suspected that would be the answer. I guess I'm searching for a 1st gen!

The trc-931 handles heavy bass a whole lot better than the M90.

M 90 just has those crystal-clear highs that can't be beat tho lol.

Well, this of course begs the question...can one mod a 2nd gen to sound as good and / or as loud as a 1st gen? Further, could one modify it to just improve the sound over stock? Speaker upgrades and such?

I'm sure I'm going to look back on these questions one day and laugh at how naive I am, but I'm super new to this stuff!

The first gen usually has purple Graphics as where the second gen and up have red and gray.

The first gen also has a real thick heavy plastic upper cassette flap door the second gen has that flimsy aluminum one.

THe sound differences between the models aren't that drastic unless you've owned every single trc-931 like I have but I never had more than one at a time to compare.

Watching those big white lasonic woofers bounce has got to be one of the finest things about boomboxes.
No other box can make a speaker move like lasonic does.
