I stumbled upon a listing for one of these. Really good condition too. Is this a boombox for someone who listens to house, hip hop, and disco to get that strong bass? Is it a low maintenance unit?

Also this particular listing states that FFWD and RWD don't work properly, but also claims that it's probably just a faulty belt. Do you think this is fixable or is it just water under the bridge?

These are definitely worth it as they sound amazing!!! One issue sone of them have is the function and band switches have a gear inside that might break but we have jad members here repair them. Also deck issues include bad belts as well as pinch roller and the tire located on front of deck can go bad. All of which can be repaired or replaced.

Yes definitely, house and hip-hop are the right types of music for that box. The bass is nice because it comes on earlier than most boxes.

As for disco, nah......I think you'd want a more precise-sounding box for disco, with more accurate mids for good vocals and string instruments.

So this is a really high maintenance box I'm assuming. I guess this I gotta start practicing handling and repair (assuming I can win this darn auction for the lasonic)

Aren't you the guy that wrote the article for this specific boombox on the boombox wiki?

Get it ! Lasonics pound. Have the 931 and despite a plasticy feeling it hits hard. Definitely worth a try if you never had one before.

Peace

I'd say get it, at least line-in works and it looks good, so if you decide to work on it we're always in a helpful mood

And there it is folks, my one thousandth post! Woohoo! I'm a four-digit poster!! hahaha

All boxes that are over 35 years old tend to be 'high maintenance'
Pretty much what I wanted to say.

It's not that they're "High Maintenance." It's that they're 30+ years old!!!

Well it seems like certain models have a trend of problems that results to more repair needed, which was why I asked. In hindsight, it was an oddly worded question, but yeah

I saw that one too. Local to me so shipping was only $15, but I already have a nice one.
My fellow Oregonian! The listing said the same for me. Shame I couldn't snag
