Hey guys,
I mentioned that I'd be doing this in my other thread where I was asking about incorporating a line in for my Sanyo 9935, so here at last is the long awaited LED color organ project!
Originally I bought this bad boy at our local swap meet for $20 and this thing has been the love of my boombox life. When I got it the 2nd tape deck was pretty much wrecked, no door, broken parts, pretty much in shambles...so what I ended up doing was make it into a spot where I could wire in a 3.5mm stereo jack for an iPod or whatever. After seeing so many cool boxes on this site and all the awesome projects you guys do, I decided I'd take it to the next level.
Here's a shot of what it looked like when I started this project:
I did a lot of poking around on the net, and originally I wanted to put a spectrum analyzer in the spot, but not only was that going to be pretty expensive with all the LED bar graphs and parts, it was a little bit too involved for my first time. Eventually I stumbled upon Collin Cunningham's LED color organ project here - http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/1 ... -spon.html
Cool thing is that Jameco ships you all the components you need and you just need to solder it up, I'm not rookie to electronics and soldering so it was pretty much perfect for me. There schematic isn't perfect, and I had to change some things, but in the end I think it looks pretty good. I'll let the pictures and videos speak for themselves. Really besides getting the circuit right, the hardest part was painting the plastic face (Lexan from Home Stinko), and finding a reflective paper to glue into the plastic box I made that resembles the Lasonic 975's (I think?) VU meter.

Let me know what you think, and if anyone has questions or wants to try this, I'm down to help.
