These seem to be made for some other purpose.... they only weigh a pound. They are NOT boomboxes.... I am not sure how much of a market there is for this -----

Are you looking for a smaller, less conspicuous means to listen to your jams and a way to record your freestyle battles? JVC has you covered with its new RD-R1 and RD-R2 compact boomboxes that weigh a scant 450 grams (one pound, for those using Americanized measurements). The devices come equipped with dual omni-directional mics and a microSD slot (with an included 2GB card) to record your rhymes at bitrates up to 192Kbps. Both models also have five-second countdown and clapper-style start functionality -- so you have time to get your 'Vogue' on and strike a pose before the music starts.

"Get your 'Vogue' on????" "Clapper-style start" WTF????

WTF is that thing?! I say we steal one from JVC's warehouse and send it to Chis. He'll give it a proper death with his shotgun.

I've seen a couple of modles like these around. They're being marketed directly at kids who want to dance like they do on all those awful dance related TV shows.

I guess JVC are just trying to cash in on the resurgence of dancing in western culture of late, who can blame them?

From the marketing blurb it sounds like they're also being marketed specifically at girls too.

Not a fan of them, I must say.

Rock On.

Really???? Is this what their research said the public wanted?

TDK has taken such a solid crap on these that JVC will be smelling like gooey green baby tar poo for years.

The kaboom just doesn't get it done, we don't want tubes. :nonono:

It looks like it uses cheap computer speakers. And the whole thing weighing at about a pound??? I'm sure its one step up from a cell phone speaker. That's one thing I can't stand when people listen to music through their phone speakers. It pains me to no end!

What are the chances JVC developed some new lightweight HiFi tech that will rock the house?

I would say - chances are zero. I don't think any company would spend much money on any audio development now days - when most people are happy with their cell phone music :-/
