Hahah! I LOVE these things.
Reinventing the wheel for loudness and song skipping were apparently very high on manufacturer's lists of must-have features.
Conion - MSSI - Music Search/ Select ?????
Hitachi - DRPS - Digital ????? Program Search?
RISING - OMS - One Music Search
Sanyo - AMSS - Automatic Music Select System
National - TPS - Tape Program System
Toshiba - MTSS - Music Track Skipping Selector
Sansui - AMPS - Automatic Music Program Search
Akai - IPSS - Index Program Search Selector
Marantz - QM Sensor - Quick Music?
Sony - AMS - Auto Music Sensor
Lasonic - LBS - Loudness Bass System
But, my overall favourite, both for how it's displayed on the box and the ridiculous acronym is Toshiba's ADRES system:
Before I got my S-90 I assumed ADRES was a track skipping acronym of some sort, but it's Toshiba's attempt at
a Dolby style system for tape playback and stands for Automatic Dynamic Range Expansion System and works solely on tape playback.
They REALLY must have loved it too as it's mentioned no less than three times in this area, including giving it it's own LED
And as if that wasn't enough to get the point across theres a great big honking back lit ADRES logo on the left side of the tuner dial.
Then the explanation to what this is all about under the tuning nob.
THATS how you sell a hot feature on a radio!
Rock On.
