OK, since Kabooms seem to be prevalent recently on the boards, can someone who really knows kaboom offer some guidance on the differences of the varying kaboom models numbers and where they stand in terms of release dates? Are some better or more reliable than others or are they all essentially the same? I know I looked up the remote on my RV-NB1 and it's like $50+ but the remotes for some other ones B or DP models are like $14.99. I also notice that some models seem to have lots of parts still listed while other models have very little parts listed. Just curious.

who is good at finding s2g old threads ??

there is a multipage and very complete post by jens --
back --say 2 years ago --
it covered every model -
isolator was a big contributor also -

hope we can find/post it here :angelic:

hey all --
i can finally contribute something useful here  :-O
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

over the years --i have owned // enjoyed // admired most all the kaboom models -

and have put them thru some very careful side-by-side tests --

and sold alot --
including some mintys :-D to our friends skippy and james67 (canada)

and NFW was i gonna sell those guys my BEST sounding kabooms !!!

--------
so --before i decided which models to keep and which to sell-
there were subject to very serious comparos -

and -- the conclusion is/was that within some meaningless 1%
ALL the full size kabooms SOUND IDENTICAL !!!!!!

so the choices are in the features and the colors ONLY. :-)

Not entirely true... The DP100 had much better clarity of sound than the white Kaboom at the first Sunshine Mix. If I remember correctly. :-)

WRONG !!! :-)
i thought so too --at the meet --in that huge room -

but -when i finally got the 100 --a few weeks later -
ramon and i did a comparo --

and although we liked the extra features of the dp100 more -

the cold facts are that they sound just about very identical :-)

i think ??
you guys are getting psyched out :-O :sin:

if you try a comparo --
blind
and use just your EARS........

you might agree how great and how equal they ALL really are :-D :agree:

or --anyhow

they are 'all good'
right ???

all three of mine sound a little different from eachother.
functionally tho i think you could say they were all the same but there is slight differences.

I think that if you take 3 JVC 70's you will find slight differences in their sound. My RX-7700 collection is the same way. My superscope collection is the same way. This is probably more due to operational condition, variations in manfuacturing and electrical tolerances, bias adjustments that have shifted, speaker condition due to age and amount of use, capacitor values that might have shifted (such as in signal path, or even in the tweeter high-pass section) etc since each are otherwise identical.

i agree any of the older kabooms sound great.

the big differences tho are in the functionality of the cd player . i mean its not a fantastic tape deck but it does have one.
one thing i will say tho is the kabooms with the rubberized ends should not be a game ended for someone.
its dead easy to take off and you could probably spray paint over the ends with some black spray paint and get a decent result.
if you can find one with gooped black rubber stuff for cheap do it.

i just let a old green one pass me by. i just dont need four of them i really kind of want to get rid of a couple as it is. i am out of space and i have no intention of becoming a bus driver .

I see what SuperDuper says about how 3 of the same can sound different, in honesty one of my best sounding C100 was one of the worst cosmetically... dunno why but sounded so sweet it made your favorite tunes even better!

I think Kaboom are the same, they all sound great, but maybe... just maybe.... out of 2 or 3 in your collection one has a sweeter sound than the others.... why? who knows?? less use?, better fit of voice coils?, newer?... idk!!! Its a guess... but could be..

BZZZ. Wrong. :nonono:
No working kaboom means that there is strong motivation to fix that thing. A good working kabom eliminates the curiosity factor and makes the non-working project instantly drop 100 stories to the basement, and gets stuffed into the attic, or the corner of the garage, prolly never to be seen again. :w00t: :-O
