Mounting diameter (screw to screw across the center) should be right at 6.5" for the woofers and 2" for the tweeters.

frank my realistic scr-8 has m70 speakers and the lasonic 920 speakers fit the m70 also but would not be a perfect match electricly :sadno: ,, are you trying to replace the speakers???

I think I may have bad speakers in the bolt box. :'-( and I thought that m-70 parts may be more common thats why i headed in that direction.
The speakers in the bolt box measured 6 inches from one end of the basket to the other.
I am going to hook some speakers up to the external outputs to make sure its not the amp.
I am getting a coil rubbing sound in the speakers , more so in the right one during certain bass frequencies.

Sorry to hear that man! Damn. Does the box have external speaker hookups? You may want to check that to make sure you aren't having amp issues. :-)

Never mind, I am an idiot I just rechecked my restoration post. The cages are 6.5.
So this means M-70 speakers should fit.
Bobby if you could , please verify the dimensions for me including depth.
Bredgeo has a pair but the shipping from France might kill everything.
Norm also has a pair of speakers he is looking into for me.

Will get that for you in the morning.

I have a set of speakers (woofs and tweets) from a Sanyo C9 you can have if Norm comes up short.

Isn't the C-9 the speakers that can't handle much power? I think hemi guy needs to handle big power! 17w BTL!

Why does JVC make it so damn difficult to get to the speakers of their boomboxes? I didn't have time, or room, to get into the M70 all the way. :-/

The manual states a 6.5" diameter for the speaker. The depth of the speaker is about 2.5" (~2.25" from backside of the basket lip).

That just means you need more practice taking your M70 apart, a Journeyman level boomboxer would have that box stripped in 10 minutes or less.

I'm sure I'll get to that point with the M70. ;-) I've only had my M70 for about a month and when I opened to the case, I had the same feeling as when I opened the GF-777 for the first time...

FAHHHH! :-O :-/

The top panel and controls are the only PITA really, the rest of it breaks down pretty easily thanks to the internal frame.
JVC even had the great idea to color code the screws based on what they're for, the blue hold the frame to the case.

  The Sanyo M9994 is the same way. Neither of these are big empty boxes and make use of every cubic inch of available space.
