It says JVC under the deck door, that's gotta be it.

The pic looks like a photomontage. But even if it's authentic, the JVC logo is definitely fake (look at the "J"). Homemade, like maybe the box, which doesn't look in the JVC style to me. Hoax? :-)

(instead, the RC-100 concept is a fantasy design by Retro, a former admin at stereo2go -- I don't know if he is also on Boomboxery)

This photo looks ancient, what the hell? :-D
Yes. To be exact, the photo will turn 33 on Sunday. See below.

Is that for real? It's absolutely HUGE!
Haha yeah it's friggin' enormous! But yes, it's real in that it actually existed in real life (still does?) so it's not a Photoshop job or anything like that.

Winner winner chicken dinner! Haha that's the first thing I noticed too, then how far apart the cassette spindles are

It was in North Carolina's oldest newspaper, the Star News, in Wilmington. Taken Monday, June 11th, 1984 and published the next day. You should be able to see it if you go to news.google.com/newspapers and search for boombox, it was my first match result.

So the mystery came to a solution! :-) The newspaper photo was printed in b/w; that's why it seems to be cut in two and gives the impression of photomontage. After all there was no desktop publishing back in the day, it was all typographic stuff. Great document of the boom box  mania in the 80s. Btw I like Jordaches's inventiveness. Despite the shortcomings in the realization, his concept design looks fascinating.
