Afternoon!

First post so I thought I'd say hi and introduce myself...!

I have always thought ghetto blasters were cool, but - more broadly, I am interested in retro culture in general as well as dated electronics. With an 80's bias. My house is littered with old robots, retro-futuristic hifi and TV's from 60s-80s (mostly Bang & Olufsen to be honest), as well as anything else I can find. It doesn't stop there. Cars, furniture, clothes etc. It's a bad habit to be fair. I do tend to be attracted to products that were high end at the time, I'm not really into the lower end/cheaper at-the-time products. If that makes sense?

Anyway... So I have this ghetto blaster - It's a JVC RC-626LB. In great condition, works perfect, still has the rabbit-ear antennas intact etc. I wondered if anyone on here could tell me a bit about it?

I'm tempted to convert the tape deck into an iPod dock, but if it's a fairly rare one I don't want to go spoiling it...

Anyone got any info on these?

Thanks

Llewelyn

welcome to the site ,, not sure about that model but i can tell you this ,you might be better off getting a lasonic i931 that already has the ipod dock and you can get them fairly cheap on the bay instead of doing surgury on a nice old vintage box

Are you sure you got the model number correct? I have one of those, it's an RC-656LB. It's a fantastic quality box with great sound.

leave the tape deck alone.
get a ipod case put some velcro on the case and some on the box.
velcro the ipod on the back and put the ipod there.
get audio out cables plug them in and have fun.

My bad, it is a 656! :)

I won't butcher the tape deck. To be honest, I probably won't really use it... I just thought it looked cool. I picked it up off Gumtree for £5 purely because it was local really!

What is considered to be the holy grail of boom boxes in general?
