So, there is a brand new Thrift Store that just opened up down the road about two weeks ago. I walked in and found it to be owned by a friend of my and her mother, so right off that bat I told them that I was looking for Boomboxes and gave them my number. I had one call, but it was a false alarm. Today I happened to walk in and right on the counter was this JVC PC-X100 sitting on the counter with a "HOLD" sign taped to it :-D :-D

She says, we have a radio for you if your interested!

I looked it over, it was dusty, but it powered up. I didn't have a tape or a CD to test it, so I just bought it and brought it home.

Everything seems to work BUT the CD stumbles a little, but it does play. Once cassette works perfect and the other has a low end hum, but if I play with the function switch it kind of goes away, so I'm thinking a good tear down, clean and deoxit and it should work.

It had a pencil and a crayon jammed in the sub hole  KIDS! Got to lovem'

Cranking some AC/DC on it right now, sounds GREAT. Lots of Bass.

Anyone know anything about these radios?

Hot score, Chris!! Good to see your network expanding. It's definitely one of the most important things to do as a collector, you never know what others will find for you!

Most CD skipping/read errors are lens calibration, over time the rail the lens moves along gets more and more out, sometimes this can be adjusted by giving the lens voltage pot a bit of a tweak too. Easiest way to tell if this is the problem is to put a CD, press play, and then turn the whole unit upside down. If it works fine upside down it's this aligment issue. Original Playstation consoles were infamous for developing this problem (especially if you used disc swapping techniques to play pirates) but even the most worn out console would play fine when flipped upside down. Gravity be thy saviour!!

Good luck with her, Chris!

Rock On.

Rick, you are a GENIUS I flipped it over and it started playing right away! I will try to see if I can make an adjustment when I open her up. Thanks for the advise.

Oh dear lord, I totally forgot I ever had that one. I think I blew the sh*t outta the speakers (sub and regular ones). That's what I'd use for my 6-8th grade basketball warmup boombox. And when at home I had extended speaker line and hung the speakers in opposite corner of my room. It was my full 2.1 ch surround system for back then. I realized that when you are trying to fill a large gym with some 'booming' sound outta that guy, your speakers are gonna be shot in short time. I think it was a little too much EPMD, Special Ed, Big Daddy Kane and the like around that time. Thanks for posting that as I wouldn't never remembered I had that one. I think I remember mine having issues with reading some cd's as well. After that, I have no idea where it ended up.

Excellent Chris!! I have a mint & fully working PC-X105 & it's amazing!! I mean really!
It's about 75-80% of a DT680!!

I mean it's super loud and sounds incredible!
I got mine at Goodwill a couple of years ago for like 6.99!
Have a great time with it! GB. :-) :surf:

Thanks for the story. I always like to hear how people used their radio's back in the day! Glad this post brought back memories!

Hi Chris-Now that I can see this boomer(have dial-up at home:() This is really nice! What wattage does it drain?

I see that yours has a Hyper Bass Sound,the PC-X105 I have has a Multi-Bass Horn. I think the 105 is newer.
Let me know how it sounds?
Have a great week a boomin'-GB. :-) :surf:

Hey GB767, this is a nice radio. I'm going to do a full cleaning on it tonight, deoxit the eq and function switch and see if I can realign the cd laser eye, but other than that, it sounds great. That Hyper Bass is a nice feature. It has an on off switch for that. I've got batteries in it right now and have been taking it with me, playing tapes!

Strange, there is no r/f balance control. I guess they decided people didn't need that feature any more!

Not sure about power consumption, it says 35W on the back.
