Looking at possibly picking up one of these and just curious as to if anyone can tell me whether the surrounds on those square woofers are foam or rubber?

Thanks in advance guys

Here is the unit

i'm pretty sure these have the non rotting woven fabric surrounds same as the pc 55 also similar to the material on the lasonic woofer surrounds.

Non rotting woven fabric surrounds - exactly!
No foam but they have another issue from my pals' experience - got stiff in 30 years which result in lack of proper bass - the only real solution is to replace them if you want it sound close to as it used to be. :-)

And another thing to consider this JVC is something when it comes to repair it.

Otherwise it's a great portable compo - do like it along with PC-W300.

Thanks a ton guys! Was looking for some leverage on the asking price was main reason for query.

Alex, bit of a pain to work on you mean?

As for the surrounds going stiff, I have had that issue with Sony ULM series woofers both in the 7220 model and the 7330 where I had to carve out the old treated cloth to put on foam. A speaker tech I know said it was quite common with woofers that had the cloth surrounds treated prior to mounting on woofers as opposed to after they were installed, as it was a different treatment, guess to keep them rigid at time of mounting.

Looks like I may be in a bidding war it looks like for the JVC, ugh. Will update

best way to loosen those woofers up is to run a white noise signal through them fo 24 hours straight with about 1/2 the rated maximum wattage recommended. easiest way to do this is with an amp and an fm tuner playing just static.

Yep, aha.
As I heard from an experienced tech guy whose blog I like to read
decks mechanics are especially a pain.
Besides, it takes time and effort to get 330 dismantled to have an access to decks for example -
assembling is quite packed.

BTW, speaker cabinets are made of chipboard.
