Purchased a JVC PC-5 more than ten years ago without the original speaker drivers. Installed some Fostex full range, great sounding speakers but the bass really didn't allow treble to be played without overlay.

Over the years the Fostex got tired, so I decided to install separates. Installed Dayton Audio ND105-4 and Dayton Audio ND25TA-4 [same drivers as the Diamondboxx I think] with 3.3uF Capacitor and resistor to calm the bright tweeter. Someone suggested to install the tweeter inside the cabinet and use the port for the sound. I chose not to obstruct the bass port and drilled holes into the cabinets instead. Once I did it there was no going back.

Ok it looks kind of wonkie, but it cranks like you would not believe. My gf says it looks artsie, like I was trying to make a statement. I just wanted it to sound better. Bass hits hard, sound is much better than a single driver in those boxes. Might trim the tweeters, might not.

Let me know what you think.

Totally messed up, should have gone to the upgrades / customizations forum. Can we have someone move this over. I am very sorry.

Those woofers looked sweet. I wish u would have demoed songs with much deeper bass passages. I want to see how well it and how much they move in reproducing those low tones.

Yep, unfortunately my phone doesn't pick up bass as well as I wished. I'm really over driving the microphone, sounds distorted when it's not. The more I use the JVC, the more the woofers have broken in and the more movement they have. It's pretty crazy for a boombox.

I have replaced woofers in my Polk Audio with similar 5 1/4" drivers, they are really amazing.
