Not really!
It depends on the applicator and surface preparation.

Adhesion to plastic can be tricky!

When you talk about boombox type of plastic it needs an adhesion promoter in many cases.

Actually I was kind of an expert in the area of adhesion to automotive exterior parts including metal... have spend lots of years...messing with that... not anymore now.

There are members like Joe blu_fuz who got the best paint for M90. Please send him a PM.
He can walk you through the process. No matter what unless you are experienced in painting it is hard to make it look impressive.

Chrome plating OMG that is another much higher level ... lots of detaling and surface preparation is needed and could cost a LOT! :jawdrop:

I found someone locally that plates plastic . They showed me the process it is impressive.. I am waiting for my repop m90 knobs and ill report back.

They cannot replate buttons and trim that have been plated allready thou, unless a method is produced to remove old plating first

Lactic acid would take care of any old flash plate that wasn't secure and if it were then you wouldn't be wanting it off anyway so I'd give that a go. Best source is Associated Dairies (biggest UK supermarket chain but owned by Walmart so maybe they'd have it in the USA?) own brand sugar free fizzy juices. I used the decaf cola flavour but any would do as it's the lactic acid that does the job.

The term plating plastic is wrong.... :-D

The process is vacuum deposition of a metal.

The reflector of automobile head lights is an example.

Over the plastic ( I don't want to get there on various types..) an adhesion promoter coat is applied, then comes the vacuum deposition followed by a high tech UV coating.

Unless it's flash plated, in which case silver (from its nitrate) is deposited on the suitably prepared surface by immersion, in the same way that decorative Christmas tree balls are made reflective. No evacuation involved there. ;-)
