JVC Drivers M-70 / M-90

Got curious as I was looking at some teardown pics from my personal archive.
and noticed the M-90 drivers are a whopping 5 watts greater than the M-70. :hmmm:
Does anyone recall the ohms rating on the m-70 drivers???
The M-90 is 6 ohms.

frank -- the m90 -- has an ext. ohm range of 6 through 16-

hey - while you guys are here in town :-)
let me tell you about the awesome clean power of the m70 ---

i have a pair of huge 4 ohm KLH speakers from about 40 years ago - :-D

the little m70 drives those -- so loud and so clean-
- it sounds like a 100 watt amp !!!
it drives the big woofs right thru the floor-

the m70 ROCKS !!!

yeah but in a trailer the size of yours, one of Nicole's mini's would have the same effect, :-O

plus --oldy would go bonkers --its a 3 piece :lol:

That's cool Ira but be careful, running 4 ohm speakers over time might put enough increased stress on the amp chip to burn it up. Not sure just how robust those amp chips are, some 6 ohm amps will run just fine at 4 ohms for long periods of time plus the speakers might present a higher ohm load at the frequencies that JVC amp is outputting.

appreciate your warning , don --
and i would so cry if i caused any damage to the m70 or these wonderful old speakers-

and , yes -- i am not at all sure --if or when that might happen??

I have never heard an M70 hooked up to external speakers. I should try that with the M90 and M70 as well.

Ira - Did you also hook up you M90 to those speakers??? If so, how did it do?

Personally, I love the M70. IMHO, it's the clear king of the mid-sizers. And I think it even will outperform some of the much bigger plastic-fantastic boxes too. (think Lasonics and such)

When I got the M90, I briefly toyed with the thought of selling the M70, but that thought lasted about 17 seconds. Plus, I've realized how efficient the M70 is with batteries vs. just about any other "powerful" box out there. It's my carry around everywhere box.

I have a feeling the M70 and its big-brother M90 will end up being handed down to my son. I hope he grows to appreciate them, 'cause they are going in the will!

i did a pioneer sk95 and it sounded awesome belive me most boxes will sound a lot better on external speakers especially the tall ones with 12in speakers :-)

hey john --i have always been so thrilled with the sound of the stock m90 speakers --
that i never had a thought of using the m90 with any external speakers --

but i never liked the lack of low volume bass on the m70 --
so thats why i did the big KLH experiment --

my gut feel about the m70 amps --was correct -- they can power LOTS of BIG speakers -- try
it SOON !!!

i promise -- that you will love the results-
its almost scary --
how friggen loud you can turn it !!!
