Just Spent 2 1/2 Days At The Tn.Conference On Volunteerism!

Hi everyone,I just got back from Franklin,Tn.
I was gone for 2 1/2 days as I was attending the
Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and
Service Learning!!
This was so much fun!! Miss Tennessee Chandler
Larson was there and Williamson County's
mayor were in attendance and spoke yesterday.
Nashville's mayor Karl Dean spoke this morning also.
There were many organizations represented there
like our organization Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services
and Americorps and 4-H and United Way as many
others.
I went to about 4-5 workshops and was just learning about
what all these organizations do and how they
help out in the community.

I even am starting a new hobby with the 4-H leader
in Knoxville-you want to know what??!!
Boombox restoration and cleaning and collecting!!!!!

This isn't written in stone but I think they might make
it a part of their hobbies!!

I really like helping people and being active in the community
like this.
Yes I have photos on Facebook and yes I met
Chandler Larson (Miss Tennessee)!!
She's very,very nice and so beautiful!
Just had a blast and learned alot!
Can't wait until next year!
I'll try to post photos here if I can get some Internet.

We stayed at the Marriott in Franklin,Tn.
and they supplied breakfast and lunches and
the food was superb!!!
What a beautiful Hotel and a great time!!!

Glad you are getting involved in your community! I think you may remember I coach and support youth sports. (Head Coach Youth Football/Assist Baseball/Call Games Middle High School) The only thing I can say is that your Miss Tennessee has nothing on our Miss Alabama!

As approved of by ESPN, ABC, Brent Musburger...wisely advising boys to toss the ol' football around the backyard, and Sports Illustrated!!!

It does feel good to help out and be active in the community,keeps you busy

Hmm, nothing wrong with that woman in the photo that a good meal couldn't fix, she looks like she doesn't eat enough!

So, volunteering. I do a day per week in a local project that seeks to keep young folk off the streets and gives them a chance to learn some engineering skills.
Usually, we get the young 'uns involved by letting them loose with broken old cars that they can rebuild as they learn.
I'm trying to convince the social workers who run the place that I should be allowed to bring in some dead radios, a soldering iron, a decent meter and my oscilloscope, no luck yet, Apparently Health and Safety legislation forbids us from exposing disaffected kids to EHT and sources of intense heat.

I've worked in a voluntary organisation for the last 12 years but I'm lucky enough to be one of the ones within the organisation who get paid to do it...all I do each day is help people and I get paid to do it...its a fab job
