Before i go into deuail i must say i have wanted this radio for over 20 years

I received her today all bad news im afraid ebay has been a real bad jinx to me of late :-/
First off she has speaker rot the tape deck worked for all of 5 mins in chipmonk fasion then it jammed up (needs belts)
The radio section does absolutley nothing it scans through but picks up nothing (only faint hiss)

To top it all off she is only working on 1 channel :'-( Tested on headphones with cd she works on both channels fine then

I bought this unit from a seller with nearly 2000 feedback 100% as you may have read in my other thread.

I Realy Realy don't know what to do as this transaction has been a struggle all the way through but i also realy want to keep this radio as it's totally rare compaired to the likes of your jo blogs m90

What do i do.

here is what to do --

as it was a 20 year search -- KEEP it.
then, so it wont bother you --and so you wont have to look at it-
hide it someplace
-- put it in your 'fix it someday' pile

tell the seller whats wrong --but dont send it back

continue to look for another one.

keep in mind that you have survived much bigger
problems than this :-D

I've had the same thing happen to me.
The E-Bay description says it works, and when I get it, it slightly works for a second and then breaks down.
I have had boxes break down right in front of my eyes that I've had for a while, and some that I've only had for days.
You never really know when it is a boxes time to break and this is why I don't bother giving a bad review to the seller.
It may not be their fault.
Bad packing is always their fault obviously.
I would just hold on to it and get it fixed.
I think I found a sight that fixes vintage electronics, I'll look for it and post.

hope this helps

So what do i do about feedback this radio wasn't cheap at £100 the actual condition of her is great you should feel the weight of this thing, its not much bigger than a akai pj33 but twice as heavy i have only seen 1 other and it looked a wreck, she is major build quality the speakers are only 3 inch lol

I guess that's why im thinking of keeping her It's so rare, i have felt nothing this heavy of this size before, i should imagine alot like a bose system i just wish she was in better condition electronically, the seller never mentioned any of these issues and the packing wasn't the best :-/

...and if you do choose to keep her, like Redbenjoe says, it is best to hide it 'til you get it fixed.
that way you can relive the joy of opening your package to a new working Boom-box.

Thanks guys it sure is a nice unit its probbly as heavy as the cp7 the battry cover for example is made out of metal with 3 twist around llocks on it.

I know this i have one more box comming and then im done with ebay you just can't trust anybody on there even if they have a grwat score, if i had known all the issues this box has i deffo wouldn't have bought it.

I still dont know wheather i should leave the guy a negative cuz most people would.

Rimmer I feel the same way, I don't even want to add up how much money I've lost buying boomboxes on ebay. Some I've literally had to part out or throw away because they were so bad and others I couldn't sell for half what I paid because I'm honest in my descriptions. When your honest in your descriptions prices come down but when you lie like many do you get top dollar for something that isn't what you claimed. I'm happy with my collection but I can't continue throwing money away buying misrepresented boomboxes. It hasn't been all bad, I have received a few boxes that were actually better than described so I ended up with a great deal unfortunately those are the exceptions.

I have a local tech here who charges a $40 eval fee. If the item is repairable, the $40 goes towards the repair. Have you tried looking deep into your local area to find out who can read a schematic and repair electronics??? Shipping alone for that beast would cost an arm and a leg, possibly more than the repairs, which could be quite simple.

If push comes to shove and you can't find an electronics repair specialist, I recommend you go into your phone book/yellowpages/websearch and find a local shop that rents out professional audio gear. Call them up and find out who repairs their electronics. And if they know of anyone in the UK who does a good job re-coning speakers? You may need to ship to another city, but that's a hell of a lot cheaper than shipping overseas.

Explain what you're into and that this relationship may yield more opportunity for business down the road. You may find a contact that will be of tremendous value to you moving foward.

As for the tape deck and such, don't be afraid to open her up and try to change belts yourself. I've done idler wheel repairs and complete tape deck tear-downs and rebuilds and I AM NOT AN ELECTRICIAN. Just work slow and take lots of digital pictures along the way so that you are able to see what goes where. Having a service manual with exploded view diagrams is obviously an even better idea. Best to use a combination of both SM & digital camera.

Better yet, take an electronics course and learn how to troubleshoot/fix these bad boys yourself. That's actually #6 on my personal list of things I'd like to do in my life.... I spend too much money getting **** fixed!
