Just picked up my Panasonic FX 5005.

Just picked up my Panasonic FX-5005.

I've bought this sight unseen from a chap I met through work, I was told it was in good condition and was all working, given that I was told it was a "big" Panasonic, and being in good condition, I offered $50.00 for it, (I heard it running over the 'phone) when I went to pick it up this morning the guy met me outside his place and handed me this:

Well, he mentioned he was in a big hurry to go out, I put the carton in the boot of the car and proceeded home.

Open it up and here it is:

I thought, OMG what have I done. Well I tested it out, and it all worked, a surprise was the FM, which I was told wasn't the best, Radio works extra fine, tape deck works perfectly. Battery comp has never had batteries in it.

Then I spent an hour cleaning, here's the result:

....and here's a bigger picture, you can see every cosmetic blemish and mark, especially the door chrome (disappointing, but I would guess not many are in primo condition) and my indian ringneck "Oscar" who wanted to play.

Anyway, it all sounds OK, nice and loud, no static when you move the dial, knobs and switches, all in all a nice box, with a not to bad sound. Tape sounds great as well. I like it so far.

I was always intrigued by the looks of that one but was never motivated enough to buy one because it looks a lot like maybe it's an entry level box.

It's my second box, I've been at this a week or so, I guess you could call it entry level.

I like the blue.

It's not a grail that's for sure.

I do like the outside placement of the tweeters. I didn't even notice that the first time I looked at her.

The REALLY cool thing is you have the National version of that box. The Panasonic version doesn't have the cool blue markings. Plus, you have the original carton.

I also have one of these Terry. Mine is in Mint condition but you did
very well getting the original box with yours

I would definately call it an entry level box but they just look so nice it
is one to keep

Looks fantastic and then some, yet looks transportable. If it were on Ebay now, I'd be bidding on it myself, and probably paying more for one in worse condition. It may not be much to some of us, but I think that's a pretty swell boombox, and a very good candidate for playing outdoors.
