Just got a Clairtone 7978...just hum...no music

Bought it...guy had no cord or batteries. He said it works great !
Nope ! Tape or radio...nothing but hum volume.
Before I tear it apart, is there something that I should look for ?

Have you tried contacting him?

I recently bought an Aiwa tpr-955 and the left side speakers wouldn't work.
I played with what I thought were the common sense things (balance, volume, mono/stereo/wide mode switch) and finally found it was the function switch.
You might want to try turning, twisting, switching, wiggling and tapping all controls.

Yeah, that would be my starting point. Even the push buttons for FM, MW, and such can cause slight issues.

Thanks. I will pop it open and start cleaning switches and everything else.

So I opened it up and cleaned all of the switches and pots and it is making music now.......BUT...it still has the humming noise at all times BUT ONLY ON AC POWER. No humming when operating on batteries.

Could be the capacitors around the ac power supply.

Problem solved... for some reason the previous owner had it switched to 220 volt.
When I switched it to 110 volt the problem disappeared.
