A nice big package arrived at the home....

what do you suppose it could be? Don't recall ordering a microwave...

A clapped-out GE dual-cassette boombox from the mid-late 80s - the doors had been removed before shipment but were in the package

Getting into the wee beastie was easy enough. One of the easier machines to work on.

DSC00006.jpg

The belts had gone to goo but I had spares.

DSC00004.jpg

Had to repair one of the tape levers when it broke - seems this thing is very picky with belts and will jam if not the right size.

DSC00007.jpg

Since they were more or less the same I used the wounded one for a pause button.

Tape play required a little sorting... and the 'shading' of one of the motor pulleys to even the speed between decks.

DSC00005.jpg

One of the tape doors was missing a couple clips. A dab of glue put that to right.

Even more glue was needed to rebuild the AC jack. It had shattered into several bits!

Finally a new antennae was attached. The tape decks hum a little on AC but play fine on batteries. No replacement for my Sanyo C-2 but not t too bad for $30 - shipping included. A nice project for the day.

Nice work!

That tape humm on AC could be a deck chassis ground.

I just spent the night refurbing my Emerson!
Changed the two capacitors on the power/motor control board and that seems to quieted things down a little.
