These would look pretty lovely in a red-theme custom VZ. Would you have to make mountings for it?

Some of the Toyota speakers were molded as one piece, in other words the odd frame and the speaker basket are one unit. I would make sure these are one of the models where the odd frame can be separated from the speakers before spending your money on them.

The look could be really cool in a boomer.

I've had some Camry JBL 6x9's that aren't very good, definitely not some of JBL's finest work.

is it the build quality that's bad or are they just under powered ?

i have seen some very good ford /jbl speakers and bought some at the junk yard out of a lincoln that are really fantastic sounding and in enclosed boxes with massive tweeters /magnets and beast ass woofers .

The only thing holding me back form pulling the trigger on these are the mounting & I don't know any specs like sensitivity, FS, or usable freq. range. They do look pretty PHAT tho. & the price is good, considering the MSRP is like 150-200 bucks a can. :-D

You'll be spending HOURS shaving excess plastic off of these speakers to fit into anything other than the car they belong to. The extra plastic you see in the photo is all ONE piece. Specifically made for that Toyota. There are no mounting holes like that found in a aftermarket speaker which is plain round. I'm sure they'd sound great tho because they're wattage ratings aren't that high. Say maybe 50 watts max. Good luck with the purchase if you buy them. They do look nice too.

Low power, moderate sound quality with moderate bass at best. The factory cheapy speaks with 1 ounce magnets sounded just as good and were a little more efficient. Here are a couple of pics, see how cheap they look for yourself, this model unbolts out of the frame but it's not a standard 6x9 bolt pattern. The bottom two pics are of a JBL 6x9 out of a later model Camry, they are a true woofer in that they roll off by 1 khz or so sucking most of the midrange out of the system. These were designed for a full JBL system and really can't easily be used as just 6x9 replacements. Even though the bottom speaker isn't stamped JBL it's out of a JBL system in the 2007 and up Camry, the frame it came out of had the JBL sticker.

Can anyone recognize these woofers? They're supposedly Panasonic & are stamped '50w' & '3.2-ohm'. I just bought these 2 6.5's from a local vintage gear shop. This guy has all kinds of used equipment. Most of it is very high end. He says the woofers are from a Panasonic box, I think. ANyway, they are a light paper cone, ribbed & much more efficient than the SUBS I had installed. They travel alot with the inverted roll surround. Here's a photo of the new 'Super-Woofers', version BETA 2. You can see the inverted roll if you lool closely & they look perfect in the recessed openinigs. Are these ghettoblaster woofers?

They rock 808's to the nth:

3.2 ohms? Be careful. The amp chips will get warm if not hot with the drop in ohms. Up is ok but down isn't. Other than that they look great.

Yeah, you make a good point & I hae been keeping a close watch on things but so far all is good & they sound great. If I remember correctly, the AMP IC;s can handle 2-ohms without issue & the sinks are huge compared to the IC's so I'm confident it'll be OK.

Well, with the ESS woofers & the new Panny's my GF is sporting now brings out an even better 'boomer' sound with a really strong roland 808 sound. The original SUBS went too low & weren't efficient enough in the BASS area & were very eficient in the sub-sonic area of 10-40Hz, for a 6.5" woofer.

I've made up my mind. I'm gonna scrape the cash together to try these out. They are just too sexy looking to pass up & JBL usually makes a very musical, efficient & enjoyable speaker that has high SPL's & great imaging. My real wish is they are 2.9 or 3.2 OHM like past car speakers are. This will milk another 20% wattage from the outer cans too. I have to trim the baskets & rig up a mounting plan of some sort, probably holes drilled in the plastic woofer frame & longer srews that self-tap with washers. I hope these woofers have a lower FS & are more sensitive, like the new Panny's I got from my local dealer. He's actually cool & on the rival site.

I'll post a new thread if anything comes of it. I think the black woofers with the black centers will offset the silver JBL's like MAD PIMP DELITE. Do a sleek 2-tone paint scheme with the original chrome & grey on top & either matte black for the woofer area or just the right shade & hue of blue to contrast with the black woofers nicely & the silver woofers would look amazing against the blue cabinet . All of it should POP!! :-D
