This is why I think somebody like me will never be able to get a J1 let alone a Grail like an M90...
I mean come on! To go from $200 to $500? Sincerely folks... I don't know, really...
Take note of the Description: "TAPE DECKS, LEFT BIG SPEAKER AND VOLUME CONTROL ARE BROKEN!

Yikes a "Super Jumbo" price, looks like the 2 of them wanted it really bad.

Don't worry Strānj-Bōōmbŏks, you need plenty of patience to buy one at the right price, you just need someone to list a low BIN and always search "newly listed".

I hope you get one soon.

J-1's in good condition fetch cash around the $400 mark... That box most definitely IS NOT in good condition. He also didn't mention the broken foot and the bent tuner needle... I wouldn't have bid no more than $175, and even that might be too much.

It's a big black box, not really my thing. But I was watching it and would've bid $100 on it.

Obviously, there are folks out there that value these Techsonics more than I do. But then, there are people who collects all sorts of things that I'd just as soon throw in the trash as well. :-O

And the missing tuner window!! Good luck replacing that..

Hmm. That wasn't mentioned in the text. Usually, if you own one, you'll know what it's supposed to look like. If you've never owned one before and details like that was left out, it's easy to miss that and get a big suprise.

Yeah, definitely.

I thought it looked like it was missing, then I glanced at mine and thought maybe it was an optical illusion. As it's such a large expanse
of clear plastic and theres that angled ledge that leads back up to the tuner dial, it can look like it's not there on the right/wrong angle.

The giveaway was the lack of branding the top left corner.

This thing is haggard for sure. The Chrome is badly pitted, the tuner plexi is missing, the foot on the back is broken, the tape decks don't work, one speaker is f*cked.

Man I wish it was mine!

BUT NOT FOR THAT PRICE!

Let me ask the MEN here who own one of these.

DO THEY SOUND ANY GOOD OR ARE THEY JUST BIG?

For that matter, that goes for:

The Dynasty
The J1
The TRC-975

Are these just big boxes or do the kick ass?

Ummmm, Yes, Glucifer, I see you raising your hand!

Haha!

The sounds of both the Super Jumbo and TRC-975 are both monstrous.
Lots of bass and power, very dynamic. The Super Jumbo has more brute strangth, however.

These aren't 'hifi' boxes, like an M90 or sony FH, but they sound very, very good.

Like Mono always says, the original Lasonic 931 and the 975 have very good bass, I'd liken it to
the RISING 20/20's kind of bass, but with more depth and punch.

The Dynasty/Master Blaster/JC2000 sounds ok, not great. Sure it's got bass, but it craps out very quickly
as it just doesn't have the amp power to drive those massive speakers at anything beyond medium volume,
but this is just my experience with mine, there's every chance the some of the other AKA's have better amp
chips in them. Replacing tweeters in her will help a lot too.

I've been using my TRC-975 as my carry to work/use at work box for the last week and it is a truly fantastic
specimen of true ghettoblasting goodness.

Chris, let's just say get all three! To make it nice and simple.

Decisions are far too hard!

:agree: Let me put it to you this way... You just got a GF-777. Despite the Sharp's MUCH higher build quality, the J-1 sounds better than that box, in my opinion,
and equals or betters it in terms of power... I don't even have to mention the fact that the J-1 looks WAAAAAY cooler

Before I go any further, I want to apologize to Strānj-Bōōmbŏks for straight up HI JACKING his thread! (got to have some class here! :-D )

Second, since we've opened up this can of worms lets see where it goes....

Glue, your probably right, if I had all three boxes I would be better informed. I may have to take you up on that! (If I could only find them and had the money!) Crazy, your carryin' that monster 975 box to work! That's so cool!

Mono, yes, just got the 777. Yes, I do like the "Technical" aspect and high end quality of the 777 and compared to my other boxes, the power is out standing. BUT with that said....one could always have more POWER!

The real reason I am asking is, in another thread, the subject was along the lines of "Why do bboxes with 8 inch speakers suck?". I don't have any with 8" speakers, hence all the questions.

But more then anything, finding out that the J1 is the real deal and not just a big empty "Looker" box more then justifies the price tag.

Strānj-Bōōmbŏks, I know you want one of these bad. So do I. A piece of me has just come to the conclusion that I'm going to save up a $h1t load of money and straight up PAY the price! BUT with that said, it's going to be a fully working unit from a reliable source. Not some junk box missing key parts / irreplaceable parts.

NOW, I have to ask about build quality on the J1 and 975???? You know where this is going!!!! :hmmm:

So now I have to find a member in the Los Angeles area that I can go drink a beer with and take a listen to their J1 or 975. I have never seen these in person!

Any Beer drinkin' J1 owners around????
