It sounds beautiful.
I need some help though.
Does anybody have info on this? It has stereo inputs but no line- in switch.
Can't seem to get the ipod sounding.
Tape works, plays a tiny bit fast and eats tape but I havn't cleaned it yet.

you wont be all crazy about this faulty hitachi design 
but ---put a tape in it --insert your line-in cords ..set the function switch to tape --
then press play
or play & record & pause
and you should hear your ipod
also - if you dont want to run a tape --
find the 'trigger' in the deck --
that makes it ' think; there is a tape in there

I've had a TRK-5280 also, it was a solid box. The woofer grilles weren't really my thing though. Also, mine lacked treble, though the bass was good. It dates from about 1976-77. Nice find! :sin:

hi i got one of those hitachis yesterday-alas-mine is buggered 
opened it up to find a loose part inside (now resecured) and the left chanel woulnt fire up
aerial snapped off so no fm reception.
but tape works (on 1 channel ) kinda sorta
from what i can hear of it,sounds like its got a nice sound

well ive since got another one (2 days ago)that powers up but no sound from the tape deck (done the belts only to find the bloody play head is fragged 
and the radio doesnt come on when you switch to radio....although it did,briefly when i got it gonna post this in the appropriatew section though
