Spud came over today for a few minutes and brought some M70's for me to freshen up for him.
He also brought one of his M90's ti do a comparo with my white woofered M90 and the results were very favorable.
They actually sound very similar and are about even in loudness. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
He also brought his ultra rare original white speakered RC550........ :drool: :drool: :drool: :drool: :drool:

so its GREAT news that you are losing nothing in the sound comparo = KEEPER :thumbsup: :drool: :yes:

how well does the 550 handle bass? i have only briefly heard one before and didnt really get a chance to try it out.

It was a short visit, but a nice micro-mini meet! Skippy is taking good care of my M70s.... he even let me take one home after major surgery!!! (From the first batch he picked up last Friday) The poor donor M70 we are using to get the rest up to snuff is not seen in the pictures.... it gave up it's ghost and is in pieces. Too bad.... it was a $300 box, that I thought would be restorable, but instead my "parts" box became the better one to bring back to life... go figure. It is coming in handy getting the rest up to snuff though. :thumbsup: When we are done I will make what is left available. There will be major parts that will be usable.

One of the M70s in the picture is now Skippy's BTW..... and the box in the middle is actually an M71. It is in dire need of help and TLC so wish for the best!!! (Even though it looks good from 6 feet away)

The M90 comparo was interesting. Setting the both to the same radio station, EQ setting equal at 3 o'clock, showed that the stock M90 had a ~slight~ edge in bass... but nothing that a bump up to 4 on the white could not fix. The stock M90 has a bit more midrange, but the white drivers sounded clearer to me, maybe a bit more highs and definition. Kicking up the bass all the way proved no problem for either M90. I would say that it was a very even match, and any differences are minor, and personal preference. It sounded so good to me that I am seriously considering the swap myself... just for the different look. Side by side they white drivers looked factory fresh to me.

In regards to the RC-550, I have a few, but nothing for sale as of now. They put out a good amount of bass, but a well used example might start to sound tired at some point. I have a NIB RC-550 that sounds brilliant....

Man I bet it's been a while since that many M70's have been together (even though one is a ring in M71).

To me the M90's don't look complete without one. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
