How often do you see a blue, 6 ohm speaker? M90 repairs come to mind!

The speaker is listed as a subwoofer, but I bet run full-range it would play out to 5,000 Hz or so. I don't know if it will fit, but if someone has a M90 project, this might be just the ticket to test.

Parts express have had those for awhile now. They were being sold along with the matching 6.5" satellites, which sold out quick so the only things left are the subs. I don't think they will work full range since they were paired with full range satellites which weren't much smaller. But maybe I'm wrong.

I would think that there would be crossovers built into the boxes for the speakers but without the crossover they would work like a full range woofer. But I'm just guessing

I think the Sony stereo that works with these speakers has three internal amps (L, R, and Subwoofer). The amp is probably an "STK module." I think the audio above about 80Hz is filtered out before it hits the subwoofer amp.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is no crossover inside the wood box, just the speaker. That's what makes me think the speaker could be used full-range. A large inductor would cost much more than a simple active filter (before amp crossover).

well i have opened a couple of boxes out of systems like that and all i have found was plain speakers no crossovers or anything that would be included,, a plain speaker used as a subwoofer .....

I always thought seeing those Sony woofers in the store that they would look righteous in a boombox.
They are listed as passive.
