Here's some pics from my night...disassembling unit #1. Yes i have 2 non-working VZ-2000s.

Opened the box up to find this lovely surprise. Obviously this has been apart before and they broke the circuit board by letting the turntable deck drop while the PCB was still connected.

Can anyone tell me why someone has put holes in above some of the function selector switches? (unit #1)

Other notes: Unit 1 had the main turntable belt broken but no mess from the rubber.

I then split open unit #2 to find turntable deck all good including the circuit board so i'll be using that one in unit #1.
I chose unit 1 as my keeper machine as it was better cosmetically and the tape deck ran.

Other notes: Unit 2's main belt still in tact.
Both units prior to dismantling had non-functioning turntables and radios.

Any help to my above questions would be appreciated.

For what it's worth, it took me about an hour to take the first VZ apart because i ran into some difficulties trying to separate the cabinet. Turns out i needed to remove the turntable stabiliser springs...and then hey presto!
The second VZ took about 5 minutes!
Oh and i split the cabinets first then took out the turntables. Not the other way around. Guess it doesn't matter.

Grab the service manual from fatdogs files

Contact cleaner on pots (volume), do not use it on faders (slide controls) the faders need a product like deoxit F5.

I would suggest looking at getting something like this

I need to order some more and if any other Au/Nz members want to join in maybe we can save some $$ with a group buy, at least save some $$ on postage

Thanks for the links!

Oh and i've seen conflicting info getting around for which turntable belts (the large and small one) to use on the VZ-2000Z. Can someone verify?

Cheers tshorba,
Got onto a guy who can supply both belts! Thanks to glue.

Anyone familiar with the internal record switch location? This is to do with the tape deck right? Might be way off..

Well i got to the switch (had to unbolt and turn over the main pcb/tuner assembly) and well she was dirty even looking at the outside. So i threw a tape in and pressed rec/play and i see that the metal hook coming from the tape deck does not move at all so it doesn't activate the switch? This ain't right is it?

So i had to clean the switch by manually moving it back and forward while apply contact cleaner.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Scott

Well i played around with it a little more today.

Guess what, it records onto tapes. I know because i listened through headphones as i was getting slight audio at max volume. And AM radio picks up...i can hear very faintly when turned right up...FM couldn't get a station but i can hear the static tone change when going between the different bands. And i've got a record to spin up.

Since i've cleaned all the switches etc and i'm getting very faint audio i think it must be the amp chip. Plausible?

I think i ve been looking for the same switch. Is moved by the long bar then from the tape deck ? So is the record playback switch not on the tape deck.

Man I'm confused

Hi Mark,
The switch is on the circuit board (connects via a hook to the tape deck) that is behind the tuner so you have to unscrew and remove this whole assembly. It's only about 5 screws if i remember correctly.
