Prowling the net I found this ad image--
Interesting in that what i think it displays(?) is a home rack intended for mounting one's large boombox on top as the integral part of a home stereo system?
Sort of a grab it and go when portability is desired?
I like prowling these scans of old boombox ads and appreciate the people who take the time to not only find them but scan them to the net.

Exactly so, typical among tops in late 70s-early 80s, like this
Sony CFS-656.

Has anyone ever seen one in real life?
Not the above. :)
On Yahoo JP I saw National RX-7000 with a cabinet base made for its model.
Nowdays a 7000 goes for top $ this base would make it even higher. ;)

And considering shipping I'd have better left base in Japan. :-D

Just by staring at the ads--it appears as if the box was the amp for the entire system?
Awesome concept with the right box--?

Wow, I hope Hitachi supply a separate amp to drive those home speakers :-)
Nope, at least not listed among accessories.

Having a separate amp, IMO, would have broken the whole concept.
What for this Perdisco has speaker outputs then?

Never tried myself but heard many times that good one-piecers pump
external acoustics just nice. Box one chip amps are capable of that.
And in those 2 cases (Hitachi and Sony) in this thread those external speakers were specially
intended for use with those boxes.

Yep, it was, IMO, it's right concept for the right box.
If you don't want/couldn't afford home component system, for instance. :)
