A mere week before closing the deal for the Sanyo MX-820…

There are many local thrift shops and flea markets around the Campania region where I live and I have posted pictures and videos of some of the radio’s I have found and passed on. Most are entry level boxes and most have been well loved over the years. But on a recent stop into a local thrift store I found this Sony CF-890S.

This box was clearly someone’s prized possession. It was obviously kept in doors and only had slight dust in the back vents. I received it in 100% working condition, only needing a slight deoxit on the switches. The deck is still functioning, and plays well, but I have decided it will get a full set of belts anyways.

This shop owner gave me a very good price and I’m very certain I could have played hard ball and talked him down, but didn’t feel I needed to beat him up to make the deal. Following the transaction, he gave me a business card with 40% off my next purchase, So I will be back.

The radio got a wipe down with a damp clothe and micro fiber clothe and that was it. With the acceptation of the dent in the aluminum top trim, it is near flawless.

I have no other wood panel boxes, acquired two in two weeks!

Wow, the 70s Sony boxes are so high quality and unique. My recently acquired 490 showed me how great Sony gear was. Your 590 looks in super nice condition - certainly are rare box anywhere in the world.

How is the sound BTW??

James.... :-)

It's actually better than most 70's boxes. It might help that this radio is in such good original shape, but over all, I am surprised.

What a beauty, love this. No one does build quality like Sony and she's in safe hands now :)
Yes, everything from this era was well built and stylish. A connoisseur’s box.
