Like many of you that grew up in the 80's, the movie Breakin holds a special place for me. Yeah it was a cheesy hollywood movie but I was 8 years old when it came out and it was my version of "Gone with the Wind" or the "Sound of Music." Not only did it help introduce me to the hip hop culture but it also light a fire in me to learn how to dance and master the skills of "Ozone" and "Turbo."

But you know that the various scenes in the movie, like the one at Venice Beach, could not have been possible without a boombox being present. And what a version of the Conion c-100 it was.

Then came Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, even more cheesy then the first. Along with the over the top dance sequences, it also introduced new graffitied versions of some grails. The Sharp 777 and the Rising 20/20.breakin2-boombox4.jpgbreakin2-boombox3.jpg

The question is, what happened to these radios? I always wondered, and last year I thought I was going to finally get my answers. At a dance competition I met Micheal Chambers aka "Turbo." It was really cool to meet him. He was 16 when he made the movie and I was an 8 year old kid that idolized him as a dance god! Turbo.jpg

So one of the questions I asked him was what ever happened to all the boomboxes from the movies? His answer surprised me! He said he had not idea because when they made the movies, no one realized that they were making films that would become icon and so loved many years later so no one gave any of the movie related stuff much importance.

So the one person I thought would give me a lead to these boomboxes' whereabouts actually ended up being a dead end.

So this is where I need your help. I'm on a mission to find these boxes. I obviously would love to have them in my collection like so many of you but I just want to know that these icon boxes still exist and didn't end up in a landfill somewhere. I recently was talking to a collector and mentioned my desire to find the Breakin c-100 and to my surprise he said that about 8 years ago he saw someone selling the Breakin c-100 on craigslist out of Boston. I was shocked! So far that's the best lead I have.

Up until now I figured that they would be lost in some type of prop storage unit and haven't seen the light of day for 30+ years. But this Boston lead, if infact it was the real deal, could mean that these boxes could be in the hands of collectors. If that's the case, the strange thing is that they are nowhere to be found on the internet. Most collectors have some type of presence online.

This is where all of you come in, I'd really appreciate any help any of you could give me in my search. Together we have so much experience and contacts in the world of blasters that I thought there would be a much better chance of solving this mystery if I ask for your help rather then try and find these boxes on my own.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I remember seeing the Breakin' Conion, or at least a very good copy, on ebay years ago.

You might be able to replicate the GF-777 with colored masking tape.

Ok, that's the second sighting of the Breakin c-100!🤔 This thing is out there and we are gonna find it!👍

I know these can be replicated. I have an artist friend that said he could dublicate the c-100 with about 99% accuracy. But I'm really interested in finding the originals.

Thanks for your help Bobby!

If I know anything about Hollywood usually when they're done with a prop they put it in the big warehouse and you never see it again.

I guess the best place to start would be looking for the prop Master for these two movies.

I was thinking along those same lines. I found out who the prop masters were for both movies and I'm trying to get a hold of them. I also found out the names of the grafitti artists from the movies and I'm going to see if I can contact them too.

Btw, this is the type of advice I'm hoping to get. I'm not expecting anyone to say, "Oh yeah, my friend has those in his collection. Here's his number, give him a call!" (Although if that's the case that would be awesome and I'll gladly make the call!😊) But in general I'm hoping to get some investigative ideas from you that maybe I haven't thought of. Anything helps so please don't hold back. Keep the ideas coming!👍👍

Good luck Howie, with no paper trail (internet trail these days) it will be tough. I have been going through this same issue with a car I was trying to track down. With no mention of these things online from the new owner or a collector, they quickly get forgotten and hard to track.

I know what you mean Joe. Anyway you slice it, this one is not going to be easy. But there are some leads to investigate and if I keep banging on this drum, I feel good that somebody knows something. We will see!! And good luck finding your car too! Does it happen to be a famous car that came out on TV or movies?

The car isn't special to many people, but I am looking for the 1998 Purple PPG Ford SVT Contour pace car. There were 3 PPG cars, gold, teal, and purple all have less than 20k miles. I talked to the last known owner but he won't give me the contact info for the newest owner and the car has not been registered or re-titled since that sale. In a private collection somewhere on the east coast. All 3 sold for really cheap a handful of years ago on ebay less than $9k each but it wasn't the right time for me to buy one as I was building my car up then.

I remember that Breakin'Conion on eBay years ago too. People were asking questions about it's originality, and whether it was just a look alike. I believe there was a thread about it whete b people were comparing close up pics of the two. It was on this or S2G.
