I have just reacently reafoamed the speakere on my little Sony CFD-K10 it was easy guys im not sure if it was because the speakers are only 3"" but yes an easy job :-)

The sound on this machine is FANTASTIC now sounds as good as the sansui cp7 EASILY and nearly as loud but in a much smaller package i HIGHLY recommend getting one of these sonys if you can.

I have compaired it to the much bigger sony cfd770 and quite frankly this little sony blows it away, i remember them both being in brocures and they were verry expencive units both of them but the k10 was more expencive than the 770 and this confused me as the 770 looks way better with twin deck and cd where as the k10 only has one deck and cd but as i say the k10 was about £50 more than the 770

The build quality on the k10 is also second to none for example the battry back is way thicker than any battry back i have seen with 3 twist locks on the back the same as found on the kaboom this sony probbly weighs in nearly the same weight as the cp7 but it is way smaller. anyway enough of my shiat picks coming soon.

Lastly look at the battry back it's not made of your normal cheap plastic and has 3 twist locks

final info i belive the cfd 770 cost £350 in 91 but the cfdk10 kost a whopping £400 and has features like dolby and auto reverse and even cd high speed dubbing

Fantastic Tim, now we can start sending all of our speakers to you right? Seriously good to hear though, shows there's hope for anybody who is intimidated by the thought of refoaming.

That box has a high end look to it, doesn't look like something that was intended to be carted around the streets. :nonono:
Looks like they forgot one of the cassette mechanisms. :hmmm:

ey up don this sony is certainly high end it even had a credit card remote wich was great for 91 but sadly i don't have the remotes for eather unit, that space you see in the open unit, that is where the cd unit fits lol but you knew that :-D

This unit is very small i have a feeling you would be laughed at on the street, not when they hear the power though

but yes all in all a superb unit and built to last. :-)

Good job, Rim!

Thanks dawg, i REALY was intimidated buy this refoaming lark have been for years but it REALY is prety streight forward

the main thing you have to make sure of is that there is no coil rub but you can ajust the surround even while the glue is setting i recomend anybody to have a go at this, the main reason i attempted this myself well as they say in for a penny in for a pound, i could have sent the speakers off to floyd as he kindly said he would do it but i just couldn't afford the posting right now as im having big money issues so i had to aproach this foaming lark myself

Are these boxes worth a punt?

I mean - what's the sound quality like? This model has a ported design for the bass doesn't it?

DOES IT CRANK? :afro:

Top work Tim! Refoaming is a great little skill to be confident in doing as it's a common problem with the higher end 3 piecers I've found, especially down here with our harsh climate tha annihilates rubber/foam.

Rock On.

Thanks peeps this reafoaming lark REALY isn't as intimidating as you think.

ClaretBadger yes there is a bass port on the right hand side of the cabinet, it always confused me as to why they only put the port on one side but still it does the job.

So glad you were able to save this old boomer! I've been thinking about trying my hand at refoaming. Did you just buy a refoaming kit with a standard measurement?
