So many people really owe their careers to John Hughes. Most of his films are classics.

Definitely an 80's Icon, I can't think of the 80's without some of his classic movies.

Yea, no doubt.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was my favorite of his movies. There we really quite a few iconic ones. At 59 y/o, too.... that sucks.

Yeah, he was the man! I remember getting let out early for school back in 1986 and going to see "Pretty In Pink" with my school buddies down in Center City... That was one of the last things we did together 'cause we all graduated a few months later.

Btw, Duckie was my favorite character from that movie.

I agree, Ira. A girlfriend I was dating when Breakfast Club came out on HBO, watched it all the time. I was still pretty much into my sci-fi heavily at the time and didn't understand why she would want to watch a movie that takes place in a library.

Years later, I finally watched the movie and it all became so clear to me. The movie was indeed brilliant.

And I think every high school senior dreams of being Bueller... Bueller... Bueller.

I'm sure a lot of us tried to be this cool guy who could do anything he wanted and was smart enough to get away with it.

his movies were spring boards for many bands careers too.
i mean simple minds pfurs and omd all were shot into the stratospere of pop music with the songs they had on the sound tracks of the movies.
i mean that simple minds track from the breakfast club was a huge song. simple minds most likely would never have grown beyond there new romantic aspirations state side if it was not for that movie.
