Lasonic TRC-920

A cassette player is a must, not just because I still listen to my cassettes, but also for the classic look. LED meters or analog meters are a must as well. A sweeping radio dial has to be in there, no digital tuner please!

I think designing a new box with all of today's modern technology needs to be there as well, SD reader / mp3 player.

It needs to be MASSIVE too! 8 inch speakers and 25 watts per channel with sound quality to back it up. Today's rechargeable batteries weigh half as much as the old D cells so I don't care if the damn thing has 20 batteries!

Yes the new Lasonic covers allot of this and I don't have one, but I think they missed the mark on some things. I hate the round look of it and I hate the lame color schemes. Screw the stupid sticker tuner too!

All that said, I still wouldn't mind having one for the simple fact that I am afraid of trashing my classics in the back seat of the car while taking it some where.

So who is going to make this new dream box?

Maybe it will be produced any time.
But most new radios don´t have analog tuners... :-/
Think the digital one is cheaper in production. :hmmm:

Those are lofty design goals and since the best anybody has done with the classic design is the Lasonic i931 I don't think your going to see anything like what you want ever. Bean counter executives at the big companies just don't see any profit in it and if they don't see big profit potential they won't build it. :nonono:

i think the i 931 sounds pretty good for what it is and it's more than loud enough ,amazingly solidly built for a lasonic ,it has a few cheap spots but nothing overwhelming , i love it! .

With modern manufacturing and advancements someone could easily produce a modern M90 type box for no more than what they cost almost 30 years ago. Could they sell enough to pay for the development and manufacturing costs, I don't know but they would sure make a few dozen boombox fanatics happy.

and for what we spend on boomers if the box was good they could easily ask £500 upwards i mean heck just a few years ago people were paying £1k just for a portable dvd player, remember that.

I remember a lot of insanity in regards to Cassette decks, Walkmans, Boomboxes, CD Players, etc. In fact a lot of that craziness is still going strong and probably will for the foreseeable future. I would pony up for a true Retro box in the class of an M90 and I'm sure others would to but I don't see it ever happening.
